It appears that any teams running Michelins this weekend can give up any hope of scoring a podium finish. Apparently Michelin have severely stuffed up their tyre selections and have brought the completely wrong compounds to Laguna Seca for the conditions.
They have brought a range of hard compound tyres expecting heatwave conditions like 2006, but the actual conditions are quite cool. As a result it is taking 10 to 15 laps to get sufficient heat into the tyres to start to turn competative lap times. The situation is so bad that hayden and several other teams went out in FP2 on intermediate or cut slick tyres in an attempt to generate some heat into the tyres. Story here And here It's hard to believe that in such a professional series a major tyre company could get it so wrong. Shades of the F1 debacle at Indianapolis a few years ago. |

I thing Vermuelen will be the main contender for the 3rd step on the podium. (CS/VR/CV) But as always, we shall see. |

It might not be such a bad race for Pedrosa to miss, if he wasn't likely to be competitive anyway. A Stoner v Rossi battle could be fun to see.

Seems from the interviews I have listened to that Casey was not too happy with Vale's riding!
I think Vale has just made his Gibernau move on Casey actually, this was the time that Rossi said "I am better on braking and will just make you sit up every time you rocket past" I have some sympathy with Casey actually here as he will not have experienced Valentino riding like this before and it probably shocked him a bit, some of Vale's moves especially the out of control one at theCorkscrew were a little bit out of order. But, what I hope now is that Casey knows where the goalposts have been moved to and re-programs the brain. Brilliant ride from Dovi and also from Hacking early on, wtf was Edwards playing at, nice to see JT getting a decent ride at last too. And oh, Lorenzo needs to take the rest of the year off, his head is a mess!! |

I think Rossi's move at the corkscrew on lap 4 was questionable and could easily have ended in disaster for both. Apart from that incident I think the other moves were hard but fair. Rossi did exactly what he had to do, make Stoner work very hard to overtake and then immediately hit back. By continually sticking the front wheel up the inside he broke Stoner's rythmn. He knew that if he gave Casey half a lap in front he would be gone and very hard to catch.
It was a real pity Casey binned it as it was shaping up as a real dogfight to the end. Overall a brilliant race! Quote:

People take each other off all the time, I bet there's still the discussion of a similar move from Zanardi on Herta going on. Rossi did what he had to and huge respect for him. I do hope to see them 2 clash again later in the season - I always love to see intense rivalry.

I thought at first that Rossi went out very hard to get Stoner riding pretty ragged and make sure his tyres would go off as Rossi was riding pretty smooth. In the end Rossi was lucky as his tyres didn't look to great!
But he did do a proper number on Stoner forcing him into mistakes. Chunder is right about the "Gibernau" move although sometimes I think that Stoner doesn't do too much thinking and may not be affected in the same way Sete was. All in all a class race and a master display by The Doctor! |

Im a parochial Australian and a Casey fan, but the riding by Rossi and he this morning was just fantastic to watch!
Sure, the Doctor was aggressive, but you have to give as good as you get, the spectacle of the two of them banging handlebars, elbows out was just awesome!! It reached the heights of their classic battle from last year. It was just a shame that Casey over-cooked it. As for Lorenzo. Ouch. |

Rossi rode straight across the track and would have taken them both out had Casey not had his wits about him. Heaven forbid that I would even contemplate this about the people's champion, but I doubt Rossi would have been too disappointed championship-wise, had they both failed to finish. That particular incident was quite poor form I thought. |

Straight-line speed means nothing there - especially in the wet. It means very little at Laguna too. Mr Melandri has the same straight-line speed, as did Loris last year... It's very easy to say, "oh, Stoner only wins cause his bike is fast in a straight-line" - if you are ignorant. Besides, it is a convenient excuse to explain away Casey's success against the greatest rider in the history of the world - how dare anyone suggest that someone might be even close to Valentino right...? Still, a fantastic ride by Valentino - he really hung it out there. Well done to Vermeulen too. |

I dont think anyone is doubting that Valentino is possibly the more superior rider in terms of racecraft and his ability to defend and attack.
But you have to remember he has more experience of this kind of thing. He was tutored by the likes of Alzamora, Sakata, Ueda in 125's! They were nutters! And in 250 he was up there with Waldmann, Harada and Loris who were extremely clever and tough riders. Casey has not had to battle much in GP yet, not for wins anyway. He usually just exploits his advantages and pulls away, much like Pedrosa does. I dont think either of them are as good as Vale in a fight, especially Dani. Stoner is tough though and kept coming back for more which I enjoyed! My problem was the lack of imagination, he seemed unable to come up with anything different? Maybe the track or just his only advantage was speed? |

Well I thought it was brilliant. Just what it needed to make good television and put it to the fore. Edge of the seat stuff for most of the race !!
As I had a very "heavy"Saturday night /Sunday morning, it kept me awake for a change |
