Thanks for the clarifications on the Capris.
Given Ford’s experience with the Escort you may have thought that Ford would have found a way to homolgate 4 or 5 linked rear axles in to Group 1!!!! An RS Mk3 run of 5000 homolgation specials perhaps!!!! And Gerard, your spoken and written English is excellent. |

Well if you're asking now………… As to derail, if you send the picture of the yellow/black Capri, I guess Ric will tell you to lower the front by one inch and make the contrary at rear. Bear in mind that with a Tourisme its all about compromising nothing can be perfect or as per the book. And that sometimes a rule of the thumb doesn't resist to a live test on the track. Often the case with engines pumping a lot on the rolling road and needing more fine tuning in live conditions. Only my opinion, lets see what Mike is preparing………… No, dont close the thread!

Andy to be fair we can mention other generous homologation forms, like BL Dollies for instance. Not only Ford…
Thanks for my english! |

Wouldn't put too much toe in or toe out if you ask me. Front sway bar diameter is free but if you're running the full trim - ARB is only arb - dont go for too big, this could give understeer which is a bad thing… There is a proverb invented by François Delecour about this phenomenon but I won't mention it because its related to religion! See that Mike?

If you had to change something dont go for bigger. Bigger is better is a proverb invented by a… woman! 36 mm is for the sway bar or related to the chassis rails? Seriously, Ric is tough as quarter back having arms like my legs if you see what I mean. And he is hard on the car too entering corners keeping the brakes till he apex. Another rule of the thumb, adjust the car to your taste and skills keeping in mind that what is good for Rob will not suite to Michel. Just for fun let me tell you each time I went for Ric's settings I sent my car out. Not everybody is Ric Wood…

I wouldn't go for a too small diameter steering wheel either or if you're not running appendix compliant you can have a small electric motor on the steering column. Not FIA at all c'est très vilain und stricht verboten.

I think we know the answer to the original question, but Motorsport Magazine, March 1972, page 70 has an article about visiting the Cologne competitions department and looking round the works Capris. There is a picture of the rear suspension amongst others!
The magazine on-line archive allows you to read the article, but unfortunately not view the photos in detail. Typical! |

Ha! The 72 issue, of course, let me see……… hum
Anyway whatever the pictures could show, any element must have been used in compliancy with the period regs. At this stage may be Ferguson has better to have fun with his car and forget about the papers… at least for a while. Isn't historic racing a celebration of the driving/ owning pleasure? Just hope he can kick some Batmobiles in his area… and beware the Grp1,5+ Capris! |

I found this see through image of an RS2600
This article might be of interest, although more focused on the RS3100... from Australian Muscle Car a couple of years ago, it refers to Alan Moffat's (Canadian born Australian Touring Car legend) Cologne Capri. It details the rear suspension as well as detailing Homologation requirements (with not even a mention of rear ARB). It does however mention the RS2600 having evil handling. Several piccies, but not of the rear suspension. Moffat's Cologne Capri - PressReader You should be able to access the article on this link: https://www.pressreader.com/australi...83003988837239 Let me know if it is geo-blocked and I will find a way of copying it. |

Yes, I’ve seen that ‘cutaway’ in a couple of books as well. It’s nicely done!
The reputation for ‘evil’ handling comes to a certain extent from an interview with Fitzpatrick printed many years later. Here.... https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/a...r-vs-batmobile |

Interesting interview Mike but didn't you post this before, # 15 for instance?
Nice hollow view (is that correct?) E.B, thanks not seen before… even in this thread! I dont know if I can dare to express my opinion but I've been slightly disappointed by J Walton book fool I was to think he could reveal some hidden secrets. But I enjoyed many things, like the way they were testing different ROP design on the Mk1. If you ask me to go further let me tell you I still have a sample for sale here!!! |

If you only rely on Fitzpatrick itw its easy to conclude he was bitter or keeping hard feelings against some people at Cologne and so on.
May be E.B can help but Fittipaldi, Emerson, said that he was scared with this car in need of development when racing at Nürburgring. Put this together with the fact he was no pussy driving the Copersucar which was said to be not the best of the batch… Why the others like Cevert or Sir Jackie never said a word in public? Professionals, very well paid by Ford could be the explanation. Dont you think so? |
