Graham should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Been watching the entire run of episodes on TNT (available on satellite - dunno about cable or digital)?

God I hate that car. It's like a beached whale with an engine... sorry 'motor'. If they had had a Lotus Cortina, they'd never be caught. And how OBVIOUS is the car - every episode they're chased by cops and they have a car that sticks out like ****.

But it is supremely funny watching the landings - you can see the whole suspension collapse. I had a mag once that showed a picture of the parts bin for that programme - it was a car park (parking lot?) full of bodyparts, engines - you name it. Must have cost Dodge soooooo much... good marketing though.

Do you remember the idiots in the early Eighties who would paint their Escort or Rover up like 'The General' and get the same horn?

Yet not one I saw had the numbers round the right way, or completely wrong... 10, 11, 99, etc.

One I saw once had welded the doors shut on an Austin Princess. WTF?!!

~~~~~
What say you about Starkers and Crutch? Anyone see Morecambe and Wise this Chrimbo - that Mini Clubman was soooooo cool. I may have to paint Andy's like that (not).
Tell you what, Graham,
All that publicity didn't cost Dodge a penny. The car was long out of production when the show started.
What actually happened was that when the first series was up, and they realised they had a TV winner on their hands, the film company had to start scouring the streets for suitable cars, putting "Will you sell" notes under the wipers.
Not only did they trash a car with every jump, but the rough running on the Georgia roads would tear up the undersides after a very few takes.
No one is really sure, because no one kept accurate records, but it's estimated that filming the Dukes of Hazzard accounted for between 350 and 375 serviceable Dodge Chargers.
I gotta say, I do rather like Chargers, albeit not in bright orange. Check out the car chase in "Bullitt". The black Charger looks far better than Steve McQueen's Shelby Mustang, don't you think?
mmm Daisy Duke...
There was a recent tv movie of the 'Dukes of Hazzard' on Channel 5 (UK) it was great.
I looked on the Internet Movie Database ( http://www.imdb.com ) and they claim there is a 'Dukes of Hazzard 2000' series in production starring amongst others Screetch from 'Saved by the Bell'...
Please don't tell me you guys actually watch that show. I used to watch it when I was 4 or 5 years old. (I have an autographed picture of Boss Hogg somewhere) When it came back on in reruns a few years ago, I could not stand to watch that idiotic show. The plots were so predictable (i.e. Boss Hogg tries to take the Dukes' farm, or hooks up with two shady Yankees on another illegal money-making scheme, there's a big car chase, and the farm is saved/crimials brought down at the end of the show.)
I really like how they substituted their cousins in for Bo and Luke for a year or so (who just happen to be one with blond hair and one with brown, just like Bo and Luke). And the time they became race-car drivers and won a NASCAR race. (this is all sarcasm)
However, I still like the music, and find myself singing it periodicly. Especially since the Nike commercial came out.
