Zekia Redjep
One of the many special saloon characters of the 1970s, Zekia Redjep, sadly passed away last week. The Turkish Cypriot, who was based in south London, started racing in a Ford Anglia then progressed through a variety of Ford Escorts. The best one of which was the ex-Group 2 car from Belgium.

I have very fond memories of Zekia, and visited him at his home on, if I recall properly, the Sidcup by-pass, many times in the mid 60s. He provided a lot of help to me at that time, and he was able to assist me sourcing a lot of the items I needed to build my first car.
He also popped down to Brands on one Saturday afternoon to help me set the car up on it's first foray onto a track, and we always maintained a friendly rivalry at future meetings, although from memory he stuck mainly to Brands (it being just down the road from his front door) whilst I raced mainly at Snetterton which suited my car and driving better. My condolences to his family and friends. |
