Hi guys, just to clear up everything, the Daewoos will be running over 6 rounds in NSW in 2002. The round at Eastern Creek 4 weeks ago was the final round of the 2001 season as the 5th round in 2001 was cancelled. Ian Kegg was the 2001 champion, with Chris Oxley finishing second and Michael Goode in 3rd.
The new 2002 Kuhmo Tyres MGF Trophy series will kick off at Phillip Island on the 12/13/14th of April. It will be the only championship to have all eight rounds with the V8 Supercars. Many of the competitors have stepped up from the Daewoos to the MG's and with over $100,000 in prizemoney and 15 mins of coverage on Trackside, it has been a lot easier for teams to gain sponsorship. For anyone interested there are still six spots remaining for the first round. Check out http://www.moproaustralia.com.au for all the information. As a competitor i can guarantee you that Paul Pickett and the MoPro team put on the most proffessional and fair one make series in Australia. Paul has a genuine interest in helping as many people as possible get their start in motorsport. Look at what his done with the CHANCE OF A LIFETIME COMPETITION, Driver Grant Johnstone finished in the Top Ten, which is amazing for a new driver and team. Just rewards for Pauls efforts. |

ok obviously it needs clearing up.
The Mopro Cup is a six round series using the Daewoos running at Eastern Creek, Wakefield and Oran Park, and if you look at the MoPro website it details this series. Or check out page 38 in todays Motorsport News. The Kuhmo MGF Trophy Series calender is as follows RD1 Phillip Island Rd2 Eastern Creek Rd3 Canberra Rd4 Barbagello Rd5 Oran Park Rd6 Winton Rd7 Qld 500 Rd8 Sandown Ultimate. All rounds are with the V8 supercar championship. It will be broadcast on Trackside the Sunday after the race. For more info checkout http://www.moproaustralia.com.au |

Im just wondering what Morris 1100's problem is with this series. Some people should probably get a life if they have to be so trivial.

Jealousy - catches everyone at some time or other (like me right now - I'm jealous as hell I can't get an annual sponsored ride in a Formula Vee cos I reckon they are going to be the next thing to take off with the V8's...

In full agreeance here.... I think I'm at the peak of my driving ability, but I can't afford to put optimax in my road car let alone any race car...
BTW- does anywhere know where there is a decent supply of AVGAS for a race car?? |

Dont worry I had my sponsor for 2002 go into receivership on the weekend. I had a drive in the MGF series to kick off next weekend, at themoment everything is up in the air.
I can guarantee you though the Channel 10 coverage makes it so much easier. Hope you get your sponsorship. |

That's a ******* thing for a company to do.... I know I've had sponsors go bust on me in the past (before they could deliver the bacon) and it is a pain in the anus...

I've never actually had a sponsor so i don't know what it's like to lose one. I actually like racing entirely out of my own pocket. it means i am completely in charge and i race what i like, where i like and how i like. i also don't have to spend my time on appearances and meet-n-greets etc.
I race as a hobby for the fun of it, partly to give me a release from the presusre and stress of business. why on Earth would i then want to make my race team like another business? I've actually shared a race track with the Daewoos at a power Tour meeting last year, i don't think i've ever been so unimpressed since i went out with the novices at a club drive day. |
