Joe Tandy (JTR) killed in road accident

Just heard some shocking news that Joe Tandy was involed in a road accident yesterday afternoon and has died. My deepest simpathy to the Tandy family and condolences. As has been expressed many times, Joe was a bright light emerging in F3 and the British racing world and will be dearly missed.

Terribly sad news. I have been incredibly impressed in the way Joe has been running both his teams so competitivley.

A great loss to the national scene.

Terrible, terrible news. I watched Joe take his FPA title in 2005 and I was always amazed how quickly JTR found success in F.Ford and F3.

My condolences to family, friends and colleagues.

Autosport have written a nice piece which summarises his achievements:

I always saw Joe as older than me. Not because he looked older, but because he was wise beyond his years. What he has done with JTR is incredible for anyone to achieve, never mind a man of 26. I have always had massive respect for both Tandy brothers, pure racers through and through. British Motorsport has suffered a big loss.

My thoughts are with Nick and all Joe's family.

That is absolutely terrible news, quite the worst I have had this year. I was thinking only last night that I should give Joe a call today or tomorrow.

He was a genuinely decent man and a very hard worker. Certainly his efforts over the last 18 months had earned him universal respect within the British F3 paddock, which is not easily achieved.

My heart goes out to his brother Nick and the rest of the family, together with his many friends, and my thoughts will be with them in the days, weeks and months to come.

I knew Joe and (the rest of the Tandy family) ever since he started racing in Mini -Stox with Incarace and boy did he progress from there! I was devastated to hear the news of Joe's untimely death and my thoughts and prayers go to the family at this difficult time. Joe will be sadly missed at race circuits all around the country.

There is a very simple announcement from the family about Joe's death here, together with a photo of him that exactly captures the man I shall remember, rather too closely for comfort today.

Interestingly the intention seems to be to carry on both the F3 and the FFord teams. I don't suppose Joe would have wanted it any other way. He was ever the pragmatist.

RIP Joe, I'm not a British F3 'expert' but I watch it when I can and JTR have done a very good job the last few years against teams with a lot more history and a lot more resources. A bad loss for the British motorsport community.
