It as more than that: he finished ahead and was quicker on most laps! Not just a one off lap!

Didn't Montoya's lap come when it was during a crucial pit stop situation? He had to get some quick laps in to get ahead of others who stopped on different laps to him.

To annoyingly do another post so quickly

Kimi's lap impresses me. That McLaren isn't far of the 'ultimate' pace of the Williams.

I am also surprised by da Matta's time. Did he have a particularly short stint with new tyres or anything similar?

No Montoyas fast lap came after his pit stop. Read all about it here

Only OP on Michelins was slower than MS.

Baumgartner quicker than Jos.I'd have expected Jos to beat a Jordon on debut.

I think again that Zsolt Baumgartner did reasonably well taking that he was on a two stop strategy and he did his fastest lap with a fair amount of fuel on board after his first pit stop. He said that in the first 10 laps he did not feel the car at all and he had to fight to keep it on the track. After his stop the car got much better and he had 3 clean laps. According to him, he could have gone quicker if he did not have to let the faster cars by.

Trulli only setting the tenth fastest lap sums up his race completely & shows why Webber in front of him was leaving him so easily.
