Thank you, I see pictures of these early cars running the smaller flares right up to the end of 1984, I wonder why they didnt upgrade to fit bigger rubber ?

I am very happy with the finished car.

It looks a great job mtpanorama. thanks very much.It is being raced at Phillip Island, driven by Chris Dubois. After Bathurst it went back to Andy Rouse in the UK and was entered by Ford France in the French TCC in 1988, mostly driven by Alain Ferte. It won its class and came second in the championship. Jean Paul Becker then owned it and raced it in Group A (?) in France after that. The car went through several owners including Martin Johnston in the UK before coming back to Australia.

This info would be most welcome in the Sierra RS500 thread.

Does the car being in 1987 livery have to run the smaller and fragile 7.5 inch rear end rather than the much stronger (and far more suitable to standing starts) 9 inch rear end?

If so it might make for some rather spectacular (and expensive starts)

Thanks for your comments guys. It was a great job to do. I just wish I could be at PI to see it on the track.

Yes it does and has anyone noticed the seat is on the wrong side.

David you shouldn't go back a spot because the car should not be included in the results, let alone run for both the above reasons.

The scrutineers have been all over it. The car has been given a special permit to run as LHD as the parts were not available in time to convert it back to RHD.
I for one, and most others probably just want to see it back out on the track, the LHD or RHD is going to make no performance difference so let it go.

Whilst I too would like to see it race...

IIRC - PI is an Anti Clockwise circuit, with more LH corners than RH?
Therefore, technically, wouldn't the balance & cornering 'performance' be enhanced with the driver on the left?

Spot on mtpanorama. CAMS and the eligibility officers know that it is LHD and that it has to be converted to RHD. CAMS have been great about it and have given the car a permit to compete for the Phillip Island event only, knowing it will be converted to RHD after it. It won't get a Certificate of Description until it has been converted to RHD. Like most other people CAMS are happy to see it on the track this once pending conversion.

Fair go PhaseIII, it is not as if it is being driven by Moffat in the ATCC this coming weekend. It is an historic event where it is out for basically a run and display.
As they say we are not racing for sheep stations we are out there for a bit of enjoyment.

I'm sure the spectators won't know the difference or care; it will just be great to have a special piece of Aust motor racing history back on track.
