I don't understand too... the BTCC remains the BTCC. This is just a TCR national series

its not a grudge. its just reality. it will cost a good team the thick end of £200k to run at 7 events at basically club-level racing so its far too expensive and not thought through. thats the price some BTCC teams charge!

Depends if you want to have the chance to win or just take part with no chance...

I guess the reason that British GT survives is because of the gentlemen racers that subsidise the cost of competing? It certainly isn’t because of media coverage because there virtually isn’t any...

By that same rationale, if British GT can survive, why can’t TCR? I can’t beleife it costs more to run a TCR car than a GT3 or GT4 car?

well in that case a driver can win in a lot bigger and better series at club level but with a lot less budget than TCRuk

TCR cars aren’t so expensive to run, budgets can be as low as €1500/hour from my experience and I’m sure they can be lower still.

People complaining about the price of TCR UK have a valid point, but it isn’t the fault of the cars or series, it’s to do with how the U.K. market reacts to series/formula. We’d be better questioning whether the artics, b.s. boards, kiwi tiles, hospy trucks etc are really necessary.

Wasn’t there an attempt to ensure that series had a minimum grid size before being given a permit by the MSA. It was intended to stop poorly supported series from limping from one season to the next with single figure grids. The MSA is spineless and just happy to take money from series that shouldn’t exist.

The Ssanyong pickup series is a classic example of a series that should of not been allowed to start.

The MSA is guilty of having no obvious planned staircase of series for both aspiring single seater and saloon drivers.

The UKTCR is going to be nothing more than a clubman series that in a few years will merge with another series and still barely make mid teen grid sizes.

It all depends what you hope to achieve in a career. If racing in your National series is the top of the tree for you, and there’s nothing wrong with that at all, then BTCC is where it’s at.

If wanting to race across Europe and the world, or aiming to become a proper paid career driver, as opposed to a driving sponsor-seeker, then you would choose TCR right now.

but if thats what you want to do then you wouldnt do it with TCRuk. you would go and do one of the bigger TCR series in europe; not something as equally (or probably more) expensive and much less competitive as TCRuk will be - if it even gets off the ground.

no it wont. and besides nobody gives a driver any credibility for being successful against a very weak field.

I don't the MSA involves itself with new championships so much these days, clubs etc can start up as a series and ask for msa championship status if it works. There are new proposals every winter, there is a proposal for a new series/championship for Fords every year, the pick-up truck effort was not the worst effort in recent years.

Maybe the MSA should be taking a lead instead of just sitting back and reacting to the next problem. I hope David Richards will be more hands on with championships than Gow was. Gow had the problem of having fingers in both the MSA pie and the series promoter one.

The new championship discussion seems to happen every year, club racing is very diluted these days, some meetings are poor, well supported championships rise to the top. BTCC gets good gates as does some Historics, I cant see that TCR can generate financial support from spectator support, other championships on the bill will support circuit hire for BRSCC or will the club lose more money?

The circuits take the money from gate receipts, the organising club has to cover its costs from entry fees.

Clubs haven't had gate receipts for 30-40 years,

Hmmm, guess any hacks at media day won't be taking many notes. Photographers can probably leave lens caps on too...

The level and number of drivers/teams being revealed at media day will be a clear indication of where the championship will sit in the world of British Motorsport.
