Webber to race for Jaguar

Rising Formula One star Mark Webber is understood to have signed to race for the Jaguar team in 2003.

The Australian, who has impressed in his debut season with Minardi this year, will partner Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa.

Jaguar have yet to announce that Webber is joining the team, but a source has confirmed to the BBC that a deal has been done.

The move has been widely anticipated in F1 after Webber impressed the team in a test in June, and it leaves Northern Irishman Eddie Irvine without a drive for 2003.
I think that jag can not get anny worse & need to perform in 2003 or else! AlsO mark is very good technically & IS the fittest driver in f1 (his effort in hungary proves that!)

GO YA GOOD THING!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah there are rumours about Webber going to Jag. Webber is solid but not as great as he looked against Yoong - Davidson proved that in qualifying. Still, he would do ok at Jag - and even if Jaguar sucks at the moment - its still a step up from Minardi so why shouldnt he sign with them.

Valve Bounce has been held in scrutiny for further testing
The Australian also reported the likelihood of Minardi getting customer Ferrari engines next year. Actually, the way the article was written, it even misled readers glancing at the article that Mark was going to race with Ferrari next year. Mark going to Jordan next year would have been a better deal.

Davidson being 0.5 seconds behind Webber in qualifying does nothing to diminish Mark's fantastic efforts this year. Davidson is rated as a potential star, and he was still 1/2 a second behind him, and a long way behind him in the race (it would have been longer if not for Mark's two long pitstops).

Mark is still undeniably the current 2002 Rookie of the Year.

Jaguar is a bad idea. Besides - who wants Jenson Button's cast-offs?!

Minardi won't be here next season, let alone with 20 million spondooleys in their back pockets to pay for a Ferrari engine!

Yeah, I don't think Jag is his best option. But if it's between them and Minardi, I'm seeing green.

Look at it this way - unless Minardi gets another engine, any other team is a better prospect than Minardi.

Webber should have been at leat 1-1.5 seconds ahead when you consider Friday was the first time Davidson had ever sat in a Minardi car and also the first time he had been to Hungaroring.

Webbr is solid but not the best of the new bunch by a long way. I don't see him ever being WDC and I am a little surprised why Jaguar are even bothering. I am confident that the underrated PDLR will easily put him in his place next year.

WOAH! Minardi aren't going anywhere... As for engine deals... Who knows...

Mark going to Jaguar... to be honest, it's not *that* much of a step up... and a great shame. Yet another great driver leaving the team, but it's to be expected.

FACT: At the end of the race, Davidson would have been nearly a lap down to Webber if not for Mark's two ultra-long stops. And the fact that Davidson threw it off the road.

Oops .... I bit. Sorry.

Davidson was closer to Webber than Yoong ever was because there is an enormous talent difference between Davidson and Yoong.

Yet Webber still qualified and finished ahead of him. Case closed.

Minardi have debts of anything up to $30 million, depending on who I listen to - who wants to take that on?
