I worked with some fabric with Carbon Fibre in about 5 - 10 years ago. Stuff called Panotex. We toyed with using it as lining layers for FIA suits - was very nice and smooth IIRC, but I think the colour range in those days was black, black or black.
The Panotex woven cloth for outer layer was indeed scratchy, it didn't take dye well and (again IIRC) didn't out-perform that great brand name of Nomex - the Microsoft of racewear fabric! No doubt cloth technology has moved on now. In those days Panotex was c. £5/metre whereas Nomex was c. £15/metre, but it was difficult to persuade the public that an unknown name was as good. There's some terrific value out there using other fabrics, but perhaps jminsh can comment on whether it's actually selling? |

Carbon X is not scratchy at all, but having used it for about 6 meetings last season, it pills (goes bobbly) and does not retain its shape as well as nomex.
