Cheese [VASC18R21] Red Rooster SuperNight 300, Eastern Creek 3-4 Aug

An experiment.
A track notorious for tyre torture.
A city notorious for not attending Supercar races.
A leaf out of Speedway's book.... night racing.

SuperNight is Gooooooooooo!!

It will be cold.
It is likely to be aromatically unappealing.
You will have fun finding your car in the carpark when the sun goes down.
You might have fun seeing the cars on track too..

Yet the 300km race has 300 points up for grabs, same as Bathurst.

Anything is possible in this event. Anything.

A bad qualifying, a bad start, some crash and bash, some tyre cooking... could derail what goes on championship wise.

Will it be predictable and run a 888 1-2-3 or will DJRTP get their freak on and be competitive?

Hard to pick between #1, #17 and #97 for the win...

UncleMurphy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Looks like the ambient temperature will fluctuate in the mid to high 10s later in the afternoon/evening at the event!

PS: Any volunteers/officials out there with a spare ticket? Have a mate in the Navy who's heading there with no transport and I'd like to help him out and join for the race.

Can only see this as an experiment for Foxtel for future night races. If there's enough subscribers watching, Supercars might look at the possibility of going to the top end racing under lights. As you said GTR, the cold and the smell of the rubbish tip will drive away trackside punters to their screens on Ch10/ONE and Fox 506.

As for the top performers, the usual teams of Red Bull and DJR Team Penske with the Erebus team causing a surprise or two. Maybe a Walkinshaw upset if they can get over their Ipswich woes.

We would love it under lights up here.

Would remove the second income stream from those who only turn up to watch a concert though.

Admittedly that isn't that many in the red neck wonderland.

For someone who regularly makes their feelings known about any posts that aren't supportive of the Supercars agenda or are negative towards the category, i find this post quite amusing and hypocritical

Your hatred of Eastern Creek is as strong as ever by the looks

Darwin was supposed to have a night race this year, it was announced back in 2016, but the idea was later canned

https://www.news.com.au/sport/motors...c94eece42d95d3

the "smell of the rubbish tip" won't drive anyone away who wanted to be there in the first place. An old but handy tool for anyone with an agenda against the track though

Unlikely though (other than dew) given the forecast and dry weather in Sydney.

Cool idea and I hope it works

While on the topic of quirky experiments, Supercars should do a 24 hour race for kicks. It would be interesting and give me an excuse to watch touring cars for 24 hours straight.

Nope. Usually spend the weekend trackside inc Friday so doesn’t change things.

Just don’t have the time this year.

Definitely, very excited about this. These cars are far better suited to longer races and the 300km races those years were some of the best we've seen. Disappointed they moved away from it, I hope this starts to bring them back.

Plus having a night race at QR would spice things up. As for getting out, it's usually dark when punters leave so it's nothing unusual if the Championship decides on a night race. (Plus, good excuse since it's dirt roads to do some light rally driving in the work car which is an i20)

Just had a look at the support acts, all Porches.

If you don’t like Porches don’t go near the place.

What an utterly miserable programme. Surely they could do better!

AusGT only has 2 Porsches in it.

If you want variety, go to a club meet.

Cannot agree more. Personally I do like the Porsche series, but when every other event is Porsche/sports GTesque, it gets boring. Why not have the IPRA guys have a run like they do in Adelaide, Aussie race cars etc.

VBSC have shot themselves in the foot big time.

Not sure on your opinions but just watched the replay of P1.
Other than the pretty pictures it didnt do too much for me at all.

maybe race day (or night) in this instance might be better viewing

Can’t hate on Liam Talbot for driving a good race...At least Gt isn’t full of Porsche’s like it used to be. They make up roughly ten percent of the field atm which is nothing.

It takes a moment to google support acts for any Supercars meeting you’re going to. So do your research instead of turning up and complaining.

Given that Supercars own support catagories Super2 and Super Utes aren't on the undercard says a lot.

It is a pretty weak supporting cast, considering the big deal that Supercars are making about it and the predictions that this might be the 'future' for the series
