Do you have any more pics of this Sierra? Actually it does fit this thread sort of, as the car above was actually this car originally:

It was the ex Crichton Eggenberger XR4Ti that ran at the January 1987 NM500. Was sold to Mark Petch and converted to a "thundersaloon" around 1989/90. A friend of mine has it now, and plans to restore back to 1986 Gp.A spec.

The only link i have seen to Sandown and Bathurst being included in an international championship in 1986 related to the original announcement for a WTCC in mid-1985 (meant to be instituted for '86), and later for the 1986 'World Cup' which was supposed to act as pre-curser to the 1987 WTCC.

I've never read anything linking Bathurst to any 'trans-tasman' type series or involvement in the SPTCC.

thank you so much, you are truly a legend!

And if I am not mistaken, that is Jandals (Mark Sheehan) standing beside it, who was one of the mechanics for Mr Crichton.

VolvoGroupA should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi Guys!

Great thread!

But I can't really make out where the Volvos placed during 1986/1987...

I need to know the Rock Gas (Peggen Andersson - Dave McMilan) placed during 1986 at Wellington, Pukekohe and Benson & Hedges.

The same with the U-bix Copiers (Peggen Andersson - Garry Croft) placed during 1986, in the South Pacific Touring Car Championship.

And where the
U-bix Copiers (Ian "Inky" Tulloch - Garry Croft) placed during 1987, and finally the U-bix Copiers (Peggen Andersson - Garry Croft) 1987 placed.

Photos very welcome to!

Hope I made any understandable sense!

Regards!

Incidentally, all the races began with a rolling start. Was this common practice in NZ?

There were 35 entries for the race, including 13 under-1600cc cars (10 of which were Corollas), but only 27 arrived at the circuit.

It rained throughout the race, making the outfield particularly boggy and the track particularly treacherous. Most had trouble getting heat into their tyres; Crowe and the Skyline both ran throughout on one set of wets!

Croz took pole (his first on 4 wheels) and drove off into the distance. His only challange came during lap 1 from Andersson, but contact between the pair sent the Volvo sideways and down through the field. The Francevic Sierra went out with a broken turbo actuator rod. Grice went off into the mud trying to lap a slower car and lost many laps being recovered, before mechanical woes slowed the car toward the end.

Any ideas if the I Schuler Isuzu Gemini ZZ was a fwd or rwd gemini? any pics of this car exist anywhere??

I found this in the programme for the Jan'87 Nissan Mobil 500:
"No. 62 Isuzu Gemini 2ZT 1844cc, Ian Schuler, Peter McNeil;
Before... Schuler... obtained the car, Glenn McIntyre and Dennis Roderick raced it in the debut Nissan Sport Series for a 6th at Wellington and 9th at Pukekohe"

The Nissan Sport Series was early in 1985 and there might be some relevant photos here:

I think some friends of mine have this car, a FWD from memory? Bought it on trademe for not much 7 or 8 years ago. Supposedly a lot of Cosworth parts in the engine. I did not take a very good look at it, it did not look that special to me. I think it last ran in the 1992 Pukekohe race, and the engine "ventilated" on the back straight.

I have this driver combination as an entry for the B&H 500 at Pukekohe, 1 Nov 87, but I don’t know if/where it finished.

Going from the pics on the roaring season, it is a PF60E rwd gemini the same as mine, can you find out what your friend's is please? At the wellington 1985 race, it was painted red at that stage, what is it now?

Another question about the Volvos that raced at New Zeeland in 1986-87, does anyone have any photos from that present time?

Mainly I'm on the hunt for photos of the entry of U-bix Copiers Volvo with Ian "Inky" Tulloch & Garry Croft from 1987, but all photos would be helpful even if its not photo of Tulloch/Croft.

It probably would look something like this, but I'm not sure:

However this is the Söderqvist Racing Sport-Ubix enrty car #16 (Granberg/Blomqvist), the team also had a second car in the same livery with #4 (Andersson/Tulloch). This was at Wellington 1987.

Björn

Not a great photo, but it looks like it had similar U-Bix signage to your photo but without the coloured stripes. (Jan'87 Wellington)

You're the man MalcolmC!

The first is Peggen Andersson and Garry Croft, NZ in the white U-Bix in the crowd.

The second is the Söderqvist Racing Sport/U-Bix car #4 also Peggen Andersson with Inky Tulloch.

Thanks for the photos! Q: Can I use them on my site? With you copyright ofcourse!

The first photo is scanned from a montage of images on a poster promoting the Oct'87 race (using images from the Jan'87 race). This poster came free with the Dominion Newspaper, so any credit should go to them.
The second photo was taken by my father, and you're free to use it on your site.

I'll have a look through some magazines/race programmes over the weekend and see what else I have.

Malcolm.

Hi all, thanks so much for this great forum. I really enjoy reading about the memories and the old days... such knowledge.

Back to topic. Here's a video of the full race of the January 25 1987 Nissan-Mobil 500 Round 1 from Wellington. We included a comment of KA's from 2011 and gave all credit as well as posting a link to this discussion.

Bit of a thread revival. There have been a lot of photos plus other results / entry lists etc posted in this thread over the years via Photobucket but the links don't seem to show anything meaningful when I click on them. Would anyone happened to have saved these images way back then?
