http://www.worldrallynews.com/cgi-bi...7067616,51268,

Very interesting. Also good to hear drivers views on the atmo engines. Looks like we could have more powerful engines that sound great. They may not be cheaper than turbos, but the FIA statement never said it was a cost cutting measure, unlike the others. The may have realised the need for better sounding, louder engines.

Looks like no changes will be made that will diminish the spectacle which is good to hear.

I don't mean to put words in Carlos' mouth, but doesn't it sound like he's calling for some sort of devolution of the chassis, saying the cars have too much grip relative to their weight and power?

Heard him say he wants more power and/or less weight.

Plus wider tyres for both safety and spectacle. Its easier to slide the car progrssivly on tarmac, with wider tyres and the grip level is more progessive, i.e. no quick snap away as the current cars have on tarmac with narrower tyres

I'd agree with that. Something needs to be done, especially with regards to the tarmac stages, the cars are glued to the road nowadays...

Easy - just get rid of the tarmac rallies completely or at the very least put in some mixed surface events (preferably mixed on single stages so the setup has to be a compromise).

I like that idea! I think they could definitely use more power with maybe a slight reduction in grip. Thing is how to do it though without resorting to grooved *shudder* tyres. I must disagree though with the change in rules about recces, that just seems fdangerous and i personally like listening to the in car with them bombing along knowing exactly wats coming, even if the viewer doesn't

I'd like to see the recce become more limited, but not eliminated.

Frankly, I'd love to see them sliding around on road compound tires.

It seems, that the drivers have a word or two to say about the new rules. Same old FIA again, not consulting the guys who know better than some desk guys, as ever. It is the drivers, who put their arse on the line, but no-one asks for their opinion.

Autosport's reporting today that one "leading" manufacturer is threatening to pull out if the changes go ahead.

Any ideas which manufacturer this could be ?

The new rules mostly affect the teams of Peugeot and Citroën, so I think it is either of them.
