O'connel to pilot 3rd CTSV at road atlanta

cadilac is desperate to get the manufactuer's title in the world challenge gt. now they are putting johnny O in the 3rd CTSV he should make an interesting wild card in the race. i do hope caddy does get the manufacturer's title. i'm sick of audi winning. i tend to think the SCCA favors the audis. they are quick to add weight to the corvettes and vipers but the audis nope. sure they added a bit but look midway through the season the vipers and vettes got air restrictors and weight penalties even when tehy didn't win a single race. and to this date the viper comp coupes have only one 2 races yet the SCCA has made them run 200 ppounds heavier than the audis. and the audis have wom every season since 2001.

SCCA definitely favors the audis, the restrictions on the caddys are absolutely ridiculous... but i think cadillac deserves it after what they did with their LMP1 program.

what do they deserve? the restrictions or the manufaturer's title. i mean after all the caddy's didn't have the budget the audi's did in LMP

they deserve the restrictions... they had a very competitive car and they just cut the program because "it was just a 3 year program"

A summary of the (negative) adjustments for the Audi:
* They start the season with a wider tire, but reduced boost.
* After Lime Rock Park they get a increase the weight by 100 pounds to 3250 lbs.
* After Mid-Ohio the Audi receives an additional 50 lbs to its base weight as well as a 200 rpm reduction (to 6800) and a reduction from 1.7 bar to 1.55 bar.
* Now they get: 49.4% turbocharger inlet restrictor (the car carried no restrictor previously), maximum rear weight distribution of 42% (previously 42.5 percent), intercooler and brake water cooling capacity limit of 3.5 gallons (previously not limited), freeze on air intake system, freeze on cooling system.

The restrictions seem to work: the Audis set the 9th, 11th and 13th time, while the Cadillacs managed the 2th, 3th and 6th fastest lap.

Champion Racing is really complaining about the recent restrictions. The performance of their car is lower than a street RS6, because of the 50% restrictor (resulting in 15 mph less on the straights).

Their qualifying results are very disappointing: 12th and 13th time for the RS6s, more than 1,5 sec slower than the Cadillac on pole.

Apparently they are trying to circumvent the restrictions by using a 2 year old Audi S4 for Pobst. This car is faster on the straights than the RS6, but slower in the curves. It didn't work out: only the 15th time.

The SCCA realised that the restrictor for the RS6 was to small and are reducing it from 49,4% to 41,2%.

Quote:
“Prior to Road Atlanta, we made a substantial adjustment to the Audis, going from no restrictor to the 49.4 percent air restrictor,” SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager Mitch Wright said. “We needed to do this because, with every previous negative adjustment, the cars continued to get faster and faster. The last change was able to give us a baseline, as well as realistic power data to work with. This change will give back a portion of the power that was lost between Rounds Eight and Nine, and is designed to ensure a good, close race at the front of the field.”
Nice technique: give large restrictions, so Champion has to try hard to get the most out of the car, and later correct the restrictions with data from the race.
