Brise FF Merlyn MK20 help wanted!

I am looking for any help anyone can give me regarding the history of a Merlyn 20A formula ford i am restoring. After checking with CRD (Merlyn) the car would appear to be the Tim Brise car used in 72,any photos or help would be appreciated.

Sounds interesting Dave, if I remember rightly - Tim's Tony's brother.

I learn't something today! Had no idea that Tony's brother went on to race. Was he any good?

When they were both in FF they were fairly equal.
Oct 9 1971 Brands Hatch-Tony,2nd heat,4th final-Merlyn. Tim;2nd heat,4th final-Elden.This seems to be Tim's first meeting,Tony had been racing the Elden all season, acquired the Merlyn at the end of September, and passed the Elden on to his brother.

I seem to recall Tim (I think!!) having a monster end over end shunt in F3 at the Esses at Mallory.

I don't think he did much afer that.

Looking at my records it seems there was only one Brise Merlyn,a Mk 20B.First appeared late Sept 71 for Tony, who passed it on to his brother in the new year when he moved into F3.Tim joined Tony by July with identical yellow GRDs.I guess the Merlyn was then sold.

Anyone know if the 'Magic Merlyn' still exists?
Many FF race wins with Emerson Fittipaldi in 1969, Colin Vandervell in '70 and Jody Scheckter in '71.

If Frank Sytner had it, I recall him being upside down at Aintree [his home town circuit] in a Merlyn in the early 70s. What happened next?

The magic Merlyn is back with the Sheckter family in South Africa .
It was by far the most winning car they ever made with everyone who drove it winning in it except Frank Synter tells me something about his driving style.

It was Andy Marriot who suggested to Jody that he should buy the Merlyn from Vandervell. It was in a sorry state and Jody thought he was joking, but in the end went with it. He bought it for £1300 at the Brands Race of Champions meeting. He got a late entry and the first time he sat in it (and first time at Brands GP or any circuit away from South Africa) he went out to practice and got pole! The race was wet, Jody had never raced in the rain before, he led the first few laps then spun at Druids but clawed back to 2nd only 0.6sec behind the winner. Quite a debut.

Dave and Rob,
The Tony Brise Merlyn MK20 was a different car to that that Tim used in 1972.The Tony Bise car was sold to South African John Barnes after the last race of the Sunshine Series, and it was still being used down in Cape Town until the early 1990,s.It carries a MK20 chassis number,as opposed to Tim's car which is a MK20A.
The Lola T200 that Jody started his single seater career in is also still here in unrestored and dismantled condition.
Regards
Ian
