2004 World Champion - who will it be?

Who is going to win the 2004 World Championship? I vote for Nick Heidfeld. Mika will retire this year, and Nick will take over, winning a few races, before mounting a serious championship challenge in 2004.

Montoya or Ralf will also be in with a chance, as will Jenson Button. James Courtney, Felipe Massa and maybe Anthony Davidson will be racing, scoring points here and there. TGF will have retired, and Trulli will be alongside Badoer at Ferrari.

So, take a look in your crystal balls - what's going to happen in three years?

Anthony Davidson? Oh please, don't make me laugh.

Courtney may make it to F1 due to good management and funding, but I doubt he can hack it with the big boys.

Of the current non F1 crew I reckon Sato or Webber could be in with a shout.

Otherwise Marques or Raikkonen are the new bright young things.

Button? He's had it.

MARQUES??????

Raikkonen, Button and Alonso are possible world champions in the future. But it depends of what M.Schumacher and the others stars will do.

Looking ahead for three years in F-1 is a hazardous undertaking. Nevertheless, I think that 2004 will probably see a resurgence of the Williams, so the next question is: Who will be their drivers? It is most unlikely that the status quo will continue that long. I think Ralf is likely to move on to something else by then leaving Montoya and Button in Sir Frank's stable. Montoya is my choice.

I trust the originator of this thread will carefully file away these wild guesses so we all can be embarrassed in two and a half years time.

It is a tough one, there are plenty of young talents right now, but I will go with my heart. In 2004 JPM will win his second WDC, after a very dominating season in williams. You might say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one....

I think we should wait for the carmakers responses before betting so far...
Many things can turn the F1 to whole different formula in the few next years !

We should wait !

ooh, now this is a toughie.
fernando won't be there yet (barring any unexpected rocket/gearbox interfaces), so i say schuey.
the felipe massa chap is rather impressive, but he won't be getting it all together for quite a few years.

ralf and montoya will joust it out. the juan will retire to a country pub with the missus and a scalextric track.

2004 Montoya will be successfully breaking all records. Alonso, Rakkonen & Daniel Wheldon will be main players.

I would like to see McNish in a Toyota take it. Least likely: Andretti in a Jaguar.

If Kimi gets a Ferrari seat soon, then he will win in 2004. Otherwise, I would bet on Juan Pablo. Or maybe Nick, if he's in a McLaren. On the other hand, maybe Honda and Toyota will have pushed each other to the top by then, and we could be discussing a whole different batch of pilots.

Or maybe Alonso in the Euro Nissan. Some guys forget that Alonso is the miracle man - he put the Minardi on the grid in race 1 this year, remember?

The unfortunate truth is that there are no Yanks - and I am one myself - on the horizon who are anywhere close to coming up to the level where they might be considered for F-1. Our neighbors north and south are over populating the CART series with considerable success, and the good road course NASCAR drivers now show no inclination to cross over to open wheel. When the democrats come back in we shall have a "driver gap" issue and provide Skip Barbour with federal grants to remedy this situation, so watch out.
