Can anyone explain to me? What exactly is a Treen Riley?
I keep coming across references to them in Goodwood and Silverstone club race programmes from the mid fifties, and they are obviously linked with their entrant, one Mr C Treen, but what precisely was done to some unsuspecting Riley to make it special? And have any of them made it to preservation? Just curious. |

Tim, I'm at a loss.
I've discovered that 'C. treen' is Charles Treen, son of John Treen the original builder of these Pre-war specials. There are quite a few of them aoround, apparently, one even made it to Shelsey Walsh hillclimb last year (Owner: Michael Strauss, Germany) I have a URL for a site that will send you a CD full of Treen Riley images, but for £25.00! I can't find any specification sheets anywhere. I've found a few lovely photographs, though. Wanna see 'em? |

Er... It depends whether you wax it regularly or not, I suppose!

It doesn't work, does it...?
Try this... http://ds.dial.pipex.com/town/avenue...cars/donington Then just click on 'Riley Treen' and 'Riley Treen Sports' over there on the right. Is that any better? |

Yay!
It works! And now I'm looking at the pictures, two things spring to mind. First of all, I certainly recognise the little green car "VC485", as one I must have seen racing a dozen times in my life. And yet I never clocked it as a Treen before. Well, you learn something new every day. Second thing, I was actually AT that particular meeting, and it's just occurred to me that I don't recall seeing my own paddock shots for the event. I think I'd better start a scavenger hunt for some rolls of film. Thanks Sparky. |
