It's not an Australian team, it's that Belgian team.

I always thought that the numbers within a team were assigned on which driver scored the most points the previous season, with the higher scoring driver being assigned the lower number. I know that Schumacher specifically asked for #3 rather than #4, but what about Ferrari and Sauber? Alonzo outscored Massa, and Kobayashi outscored de la Rosa, yet they have the higher numers. Why?

How long has the tradition of not taking No. 13 been going on?

Teams can choose of their own free will who has what number, expect 1 & 2. Whoever scored higher in the previous championship getting the "better" number has been a traditional way to do it, but there are no rules that govern it.

It's the code to use if you want to dial by Embratel, there are several phone operator companies in Brazil.

The Brazilian international dial code is 55.

Each team chooses who to give their numbers to. Ukyo Katayama and Satoru Nakajima didn't want four as it is unlucky in Japan, so they took three.

With some exceptions, since the 1930s, basically.

One thing to add is the FIA will re-open the selection process for a thirteenth team for 2011. I will give that it's own thread shortly.

Because they weren't selected in a fair process like the other new teams were, or qualified by participating in the previous season?

Knew it was something like that. Cheers Bon

For teams with 2 rookies, yes. Otherwise, there's still a process about it, although the teams can apply to reverse it, as with Michael or with Rubens when he joined Honda

Fair point but they did make an effort to be on the grid, and put money into progressing. For me they did deserve to be given a spot. USF1 should not be allowed back in for me next season

Very talented, but at least this year he's only going to be driving one car...
