[V8SC09R13&14] Norton 360 Sandown Challenge, Sandown, Victoria

Its here, one of the better rounds of the series for spectators... a round where usually a lot of business actually takes place, and sponsorships picked up for the balance of the season, or indeed the coming season.

Who will win?

Can anyone actually bet against 888 with confidence?

HRT really struggled at Sandown last year IIRC and young Giz came through the pack to finish 2nd in race 2 in the wet.

Sandown usually has some great racing so whoever wins it should be great viewing.

the Perkins kit went good last year also so maybe the Kelly boys might do nicely. Giz as mentioned. DJR to continue the top form????? 888 won a few 500's here and Whinky won last year so i can't really see that changing. also GRM to keep their good run alive.

A question...

Have you always had to pay for grandstand seating at Sandown?

Seems that you do this year Here

It's a disturbing trend GTR ... I well remember being at Eastern Creek the year they tried that on for the first time, and it led to some really ugly scenarios - particularly sad when battling families who have sat in the grandstand all the years before with their kids were forced to sit out in the sun because of the extra expense levied on them by unsympathetic, opportunistic organisations.

In this climate, you'd think that smart businesses would be doing all they could to retain and increase attendances, not turn them away or put events out of financial reach. It is sad & frustrating and a whole lot more.

you have paid for a reseved grand stand seat at Sandown for at least 5 years now. there has always been a number of GA grand stand seats available.

so not it is not new and it is not a trend

Amen to that. After they brought that price in we never sat in the Grandstands again. You can get just as good view from the hill towards Turn 1, and even see more of the track...

What's new is that it's not just the reserved seats but ALL GS seating. Reserved seating (sold out) is $130 Non Reserved $120 that includes ALL Children except babes in arms (no grid girl references please) There are no other concessions either.
If you just rock up on the day the only areas you have access to will be the hill and the mounds on the top end of the track and the open concrete area next to the Stands.
Of course packing your GA ticket holders into smaller areas gives the impression on TV that the place is packed.
Let's hope for decent weather as standing in the pouring rain at Sandown all weekend is hardly a recipe for a decent crowd when it's "live" on both days.
BTW we'll be talking about this next Tuesday on In Pit Lane brought to you by Arrow Karts, with our guest Tony D'Alberto from Bottle'O Rod Nash Racing.
If Melbourne viewers have any questions you would like me to ask Tony send them to theshow@inpitlane.com

Hope it's freezing cold, wet and windy. But you do come from Wagga so you won't notice.

Seems the start/finish line has been moved from it's previous position to in front of the afore mentioned grandstand seats, better the finish in front of the crowd, maybe a chance for a drafting pass at the end of the race? (maybe in FFord)

Also seems the paddock is smaller and pit area bigger than previously, if you are hoping to see the teams/stars/cars, bring some binoculars & hope the EzyUp tents blow down! Fujitsu, FFord and Utes are accessable though.

Problems at Autobarn Racing with a car that wouldn't start for practice?
