Mystery Nassau Racer

Can someone please help me identify a car that raced at Nassau in the 1963 Speed Week. I'm not sure which particular race it was but it was up against the Grand Sport Corvettes, a Volvo P1800, Healy 3000. It was either number 211 or 20 and kinda looked like a Marcos Gullwing, but with a flat pointed nose with Ferrari 250 GTO-esque vents and a windscreen that was shaped like an 'M'. If anyone has Friedman's book on the Grand Sport Corvettes there are a couple of pictures of it there. I've tried wspr.wz.cz but can't access any other the results indicies. Thanks in advance, Mr. Lister

A really strange looking car, unfortunately the explanation to the pictures tells nothing. The big bubble on the hood shurly covers a V-8 engine.

I would not be surprised to learn it was a Devin SS or some other one off special. In those days many racers built their own machines or heavily modified British sports cars with American V8s and inline 6s.

Do you have a picture or a link to one?

Why not go straight to Dave Friedman and ask him? Davestills@aol.com.

Could it be the Maiden Bra special out of Montreal? I was down there but can't remember the year. If it was the year that Denies McCluich (spelling?) got dumpet into the pool it probably is the one I mentioned above.

Klaus
I visited Road America in July 2001 to see the Chaparrals, wandering around the pits I found a Dailu.

Dailu, that is correct. Notice the double bubble on the roof hence the name Maiden Bra Special.

A bit like the Chaparral 2J's "martians bra".

Wow, thanks all for the replies, and thanks for the welcome Stephen. So it's a Dailu. I have seen pictures of a Dailu before but that was an open-topped thing along the same lines as a Lotus 19/Cooper Monaco. John Cannon used to drive that as well until it crashed and was destroyed in the subsequent fire. What a mine of information you guys are, I've posted this question before but no-one could give an answer. I'm afraid that I shall only be an occasional contributor due to the fact that I have to rely on work for inter-net access and they made me sign an e-mail inter-net and computer policy !
Still, I think I shall enjoy browsing the threads and making the occasional post.

Terry O'Neil should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hello Mr Lister,
I have just joined the group and have come across this subject.
The car indeed is a Dailu Bardahl Special, and was entered in the Nassau Speed Weeks event in 1963 by David Greenblatt from Canada.
The car caught fire during practise, and was withdrawn from the races. The picture in D Friedman's book was the line up for the practise session.
Hope that answers your question more fully.
Regards
Terry
