Minardi OUT!/PS withdraws legal action...

Practice 1 just started adn the news on the radio is that Minard i will NOT be allowed in as Jean Todd refused to sign

If they cant get this sorted overnight they will DNQ...
I honestly thought they would find a compromise.

Stoddart already said that he would modify his cars to comply with the rules, why did he change his mind now?

As Stoddart considered his position, it was revealed by Max Mosley, the FIA president that "at least three teams would object to him running outside the regulations (which it is our job to enforce)."

Commenting in a press selease issued by the FIA on Friday morning, Mosley said: "Paul has known about the new bodywork regulations since 6 September 2004, in fact, his team voted for them that day in common with all the other teams.

"We understand that he has the latest bodywork in Melbourne even if he has not yet tested it fully. We also understand that at least three teams would object to him running outside the regulations (which it is also our job to enforce)."
It's so rediculous that Stoddart thinks it's easier to force 3 teams and FIA to let him race with 2004 areo instead of just putting the 2005 parts on the car....

I wonder what people have to say now when the true picture is starting to emerge.

Team of 9 solidly united? Ooooh...Ferrari the ONLY team...?? Oohh...

This should shut the critics up.

Paul Stoddart ought to just put the 2005 parts and TEST. Otherwise, run the 2004 car, but make them get backmarker treatment (no points, and not get in the way of any race for position/lapping)

Stoddi WOULD run his cars as backmarkers as you say, but is not being ALLOWED to.

Personally I think Minardi SHOULD have modified their cars to 05 spec.

I mean if Williams or McLaren had of said "we cant get our cars to 05 spec so let us run in 04 spec", how much support woudl they have got?

formula1 is a rich mans game, it costs millions to play. If you aint got the millions dont play, it aint fair, but its the way of the world. I dont think Stoddi woudl give me big bucks and change all the rules if i wanted to start an airline co, but couldnt afford planes.

How much would it have cost him to modify his cars to 05 spec?
Jeez without lots of windtunnel etc they might not be very fast and competitive if they just did a rush job... compared to what? MINARDI?

The rules are the rules. Play by them, or take your bat and ball and go home, Paul.

They're possibly the only ones that could lose from Minardi running 04 spec so I'd agree...

I think it's too late for that now, I think I read elsewhere on this forum, the entries were finalised at scrutineering.

I though the grid had to be less than 16 (or is it 12?) for 3 car teams to be needed. I may well be missing something, it seems I quite often am. I am pretty certain that 18 would not need anything special.

Besides, I imagine those Minardis will be running in qualifying (one way or another).

As usual, Stoddart over played his hand. He is always skirting around the edges of the rules to get favorable consideration.

He has no leverage, when will he learn that?

Im watching practise on TV now YIPPEE.

In an interview Stoddi said "Ferrari have just agrred to get their solicitors to type up aletter saying if they are the last team to sign and everyone else has signed, then they would sign too."
Which sounds like Minardi will be out for rest of today and back tomorrow.

I think PS is determined to run 2004 spec cars because he still believes the new regs are illegal. If he can prove that and get classified at the end of each race using the 2004 spec cars he will have raced the only cars that apply to legal regs. But i would have thought that even this seasons cars could run under last seasons rules, maybe not?

Yep, there is this idea that if PS races 2004 spec cars then can prove in court that 2005 rules are infact invalid, everyone EXCEPT minardi would be disqualified and they would inherit all points etc.

In theory then they could be world champs for 2005 without even FINISHING any race in the points, if at all! now its getting silly....

Interview with Stoddi now, saying he got all the necessary signatures, but now the STEWARDS (not jacki) have refused the car. which means he has only has 2 choices
1) modify the cars
2) seek injunction against stewards decision (not any other team or the organisers)

he i deciding which way to go, but thinks he hasa good case agianst the stewards.
I guess all he needs is a stay, even if the case is heard next week and found against him, too late)
but ferrari are now out of the frame.

Has been great footage of Stoddart here in Oz, sucking those ciggies outside the GP HQ and clutching a bottle of champers..

What do you know, though..... all the teams agreed in the end, and The Minardis will race in Melbourne.

NEVER would've seen that one coming.....

in an afternoon court session a judge has ruled in favour of the Minardi team , saying they SHOULD be allowed to compete this weekend.

however there will be another hearing tomorrow afternoon but for now the cars are allowed to compete in qualifying tomorrow.

I wonder how many stewards will be offered rides in a 2 Seater Minardi ?

I think the outcome will be that they are allowed to race, but not allowed to score world championship points until there car is 2005 spec.

Sounds like the most logical outcome for all partys involved.
