Davrians: early cars - general interest

I'm interested about the early Imp engined Davrians, not the later 7's and Mk8's but into the 60's.
Anyone have any links/info/threads worth seeing please?

I've search google etc and have found the book by Martyn Morgan and a few unfinished rebuild projects but little else.

Graham.

NO NO NO NO ............................ if you think Porsche engined Sports 2000s are hard work anything with an Imp engine is even worse.

Seriously, I think the book you have covers most of the details of these cars.

Try here http://www.imps4ever.info/specials/davrian.html

Graham,

As well as T492's and a love for Porkers we have something else in common, my brother owned an early Davrian in 1972/3, it had a full house 998, webbers, wills rings etc and if I recall correctly a 5 speed crash gearbox, great little car and cheap to park! I recall him leaving the NCP in Soho by silently rolling down the ramp dumping the clutch and roaring out UNDER the barrier. Before CCTV of course.

Sadly he wrote it off in a crash in Epping forest clipping the side of a house then breaking a telegraph pole tearing off the front of the car, he escaped with bruises from the steering wheel disapearing thru his knees.

He got sensible after that and bought an S3 Bentley.

Regards

Kevin

Another angle is that you will most definately still get support from Mr Brown. Quite a dab hand at building Imp engines in period!!!! Long while ago though, maybe now has got over that sort of thing??

Before the Lola I did look at one seriously as the next project after my beloved 911.
The body side would be horrendous i think, the Imp drive train not too bad (through rosy glasses) as a good mate did a few in the early 70's.

It is something different!

I suspect Clive will give me a bol56473ing and tell me to get a Ghia body if I want to mess with glass and resins...

To find one is very hard, missed one a few months ago.
I suspect getting Imp parts is getting hard now, esp transmissions.

Nice thought though.
Mrs Hillclimber not too fussed, but 'reserved'.

Hi

No problems getting Imp engine and gearbox parts as shown by the dozen or so Imps racing with the HSCC. So don't let this stop you getting a Davrian. A friend of mine has 2 Davrians, 1 earlier and the other is a later car I believe.

Cheers - Simon

Don't know who he is!
Really quite fancy one, but not sure if i want to go through all the grief of restoring a body like that (never done a fibre glass body resto before) but a decent roller would be good.
Do you think a Porsche engine/box will go in?
(I AM kidding)

Would like a Mk3 or Mk5 ish year, don't like the look of the Mk8.

Found out quite a bit over the last few days, and you can even get body parts from Darrian.

John Pugsley used to always be racing a Davrian at Oulton Park. He seemed to be very quick.

When I had my garage business in Barnet back in the 70's I got friendly with some guys with a workshop a few streets away and one of them raced an Imp engined Davian. Anyhow in the closed season he turbo charged the car and this was in the very very early days of such modifications so it was a serious uphill climb. After spending a fortune and getting the car to work well just before the start of the season they changed the rules and banned turbo charging. This seriously peed him off and I remember him saying he was going to break the car and quit the sport. Cannot remember his name but think he was quite well known in the mod sports circles or wherever he raced the car.

I used to have a Mk2 hillclimb car although I never actually got round to competing with it. The glassfibre chassis was strong and in good condition and if it's typical of the standard of construction, then there shouldn't be too much to worry about on that score. Tim Duffee at Darrian made a new rollbar kit for it which took a while to fit without removing the roof. The original bar didn't even reach the floor, by the way.

It was getting the rollbar welded up that got me back in touch with Iain (Delta) Rowley after a gap of several years. That Davrian's got a lot to answer for...

This is a smashing car and would be ideal for hillclimbs, I pointed someone else at it last week. There is a more affordable/less desirable red one elsewhere for £5K.

Only 200 were made, doubt more than 100 exist today. Several good ones went to Japan etc so lost for ever!
Missed a restorable one for £1850.

I think i would only get a permission from Mrs H if the Lola is gone.
That raises that inevitable question of selling the Lola.....

Lola T 492 Porsche or a Davrian with cash in the retirement fund?

I have that clocked already, but don't really like the later front clam design TBH.
Be interesting to see how it sells.

Col;
Spotted that this morning!

Great early car, though rear end well cut up, but some nice car/engine packages available too.

Wife says my Lola has to go first.....

No that interested in the G15 though I know a very very fast one on the hills and it matches/betters my 911.
