GT's had a lot longer driving these cars and he's struggling, relative to where HRT and GT would expect to be.

James' problem is who would actually take him if he leaves HRT. FPR/Ford in general will not go near him after getting burned last time. Triple 8 don't want or need him.

He's one of very few championship winning drivers in the field, so he has some value, but I honestly can't think of anyone that could afford him would take him.
T8 could take him........Lowndes will be a bit ancient by the end of 2013.

Seems Lowndes and Whincup aren't off contract next year.

TeamVodafone boss Roland Dane says his star driver Craig Lowndes has agreed to a new deal that will extend his career by at least three years.

The 29-year-old has won three championships, 53 race wins and three Bathurst 1000 victories in his six years with the team. And despite rumours linking him with a move overseas, he says he’s committed to V8 Supercars having put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with Triple Eight starting from 2013.

talkin bout James Courtney (i know it wasnt FPR, still a ford team)

nah I dont think so, James as won some championships througout the world, and no other driver in V8 today has been anywhere near a F1 car, hes classy. and Tander is a very very good driver.

McConville's driven a Honda F1 car, Lowndes has driven the Maclaren.

Pretty sure there's one or two more.

Interesting that the teams don't seem to stagger their contracts...

Don't forget that Davison and Courtney have tested F1 cars before (Davison with Minardi and Courtney with Jaguar)

That could be good news........at least that might be one T8 machine that won't perform after 2013.

We're talking about after 2013, surely there would be better options than Lowndes by then.

Whincup also drove one at the AGP as a Vodafone promotion.

But the difference is Courtney is the only one that has driven a 'current spec' (at the time) F1 car regularly.

Everyone else has only driven older machines as one-off promotional activities.

And yes, I do understand that the cars Lowndes and Whincup have driven are more recent than what Courtney used to test.

Well, he appears to be slowly losing it to me (as is normal in life as we age), I could be wrong........depends on what T8's requirements are I suppose.

dominant wins in two of the last four V8Supercar meetings?

Please explain how this is 'losing it'?

I think he's earned every right to be in the championship, considering he hasn't been outside the top 5 since 2004.

When it comes to endurance time, he is very, very good.

Still one of the best at Bathurst - still very, very good at most rounds.

Probably still in the top 5 or 6 drivers in championship.

And his commercial worth means that while ever he's competitive at Bathurst he'd be worth holding onto.

It's just my perception, others such as yourself disagree, maybe it's just that Whincup is so good and is a hard act to follow.
