On the contrary, a rolling start is a great way to start the race.
So the entire field bunched up and in formation for the start is like every other lap ?

I guess standing starts are great if your into mayhem and carnage in a monster truck kinda way.

The art and tension of a well formed rolling start is much more enjoyable.

I had always thought the rolling start was more about protecting the driveline components from the standing start "shock" than the stalled car scenario. Don't think a standing start will happen in AGT or B12, and I'm fine with that.

What I would like them to change is the way they actually start the race, they should have it so the first racing lap happens at the designated start time, rather than the pace/safety car lap which they currently have.

Dunno what difference that will make.

And yes, rolling starts are not only a lot safer but also kinder on cars too.

One thing i enjoyed was when i spent soem time in the pits, the cars launching from stop, sounded awesome, unfortunatly they had to slow almost straight away due to pit lane limit, would be great to hear them at full noise from go.

Its funny when the v8s tried to d rolling starts last eyar, the complaint was lack ofsafety, now on hear the reason to ahve one is safety. im confused.

Personally it's a great way to start the race because i like it, just like you don't like it. The sound of the cars accelerating to full noise once they hit the start line is pretty impressive as it is.

to be honest I dont care, i would prefer a standing start for the reasons I have said. but it wasnt my point.

were you at the start line? the noise will be even better from a standing start i promise.

I cant gurantee clear skies, but i will point out if we have issues with the darkness then maybe we should start latter in daylight. the start finish line is the brightest part of the track with lighting, not much on top if it should be dark. Getting someone out of a burning car at griffins would be much more difficult than the start line in the dark and more likely

For a 12 Hour race, there should be a rolling start. Why?

It eliminates the problem of cars stalling

It is easier on the mechanicals

It allows everyone to sort out their natural order easier and quicker

It follows other GT3 series regulations

It is the traditional start procedure for sports car racing

The drivers of these cars are most familiar with rolling starts

generally you have provided the answer, although point 3 is a bit vague, its is sorted out with a standing start also.

and im not sure your final point is true in the Bathurst 12 hour race, a bit of both

less of a spectacle though, Wether that offsets your reasons is in the eye of the beholder

Agree here

Just because other GT3 series do it doesn't mean we have too, it was the same with Group A. Standing starts are a driving skill as well.

Plenty of races in motorsport history have started races safely at night too, so that is not an issue.

It isn't the 12 Hour production car race it was in the 1990's and this new version is already a far more respected event than the old production car event was anyway so I doubt anyone is too hung up on any old traditions. This is now a sports car dominated race and the spectacle you will get from a standing start with drivers used to rolling starts will be good until half the field is wiped out on the first lap. Not what I'd like to see as a fan. Worst case scenario I know but some sports car racers haven't had a standing start in their whole career, especially US drivers.

I understand the spectacle of a standing start, it is such a big moment in the 1000, but our drivers do it every race. That is normally why the local drivers start. Don't forget what happened in the Gold Coast a couple of years back. As it was, I arrived at the 12 Hour at 9am this year and they were already down a Nissan, 2 x Ferraris and a Lamborghini at that stage.

Having been involved with firefighting for nearly 27 years I've never had trouble seeing in the dark at fire, something to do with the flames apparently.

Been there for the race the last three years, I'm sure we'll be there again in 2015. We generally wander the pits on Saturday evening to chat with the teams and take some photos, but pending time and location we could be up for dinner.

The new track surface survived fairly well however a pothole problem arose at the elbow during Monday and Tuesday's ride day. Patching was done but didn't last due to the stinking hot weather-the track bled a bit here and there but is normal for new surfaces I am told.
