So qualifying is underway. Not sure if my coverage is delayed or not.

Gilliland fastest so far, Montoya 2nd. Mike Skinner on track....

Will merge this in a few days time with pre-race thread to avoid small risk of spoilerisation for people.

With so many drivers outside the top 35 competing for a spot I wouldn't be surprised if the Duels become rather hectic in the hunt for the few spots that are available.

Or so I hope, anyway - the Duels were rather dull last year.

I hope Allmendinger can make it into the show. I'd also love to see Hylton get in there, but I'm guessing there would have to be a major pile-up, taking out a bunch of cars, for him to make it.

Yeah no big shock to see the Yates cars up front, wonder why there aren't as many roush cars up front even though they have the Roush-Yates engines as well... Aero-wise you'd think Roush would be up there with the best?
Hope atleast some of the other Toyotas get in, more of a chance probably for Vickers coz he's so good in restrictor plate races... But hey anything can happen in the duels.. and I'm gonna stay up til 4am to watch them!

For those in Scandinavia, watching NASCAR on Viasat, the Duels will be aired tape-delayed 'as live' on Viasat Sport 3 at 11pm on Thursday.

Oh at least one of the duels is going to feature one hell of shunt.

Frankly if I was locked into the race, I'd be tootling round the back or faking a failure. Better to start 43rd in the 500 than 1st in the "Wheelchair race at Daytona Hospital".

Problem is, these are racers so not much chance of that kind of safety policy!

It's an exciting looking lineup anyways. Those top cars looked so incredibly solid on the banking and that translated into good times.

Should we start a new race thread for the Duels or keep the commentary in this one? I vote for the latter, with a mod perhaps changing the thread title from '(qualifying underway)' to '(Duels underway)'.

On a side-note: for those in Scandinavia watching the races on Viasat Sport 3, the races will now be shown live at 8pm (20:00) CET. Previously the tv-listing had the two races scheduled to be aired tape-delayed at 11pm.
