Gaz should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
F3 2004

British F3 2004, at this present moment in time this is surely going to be like F1 2002. Any serious contender to Piquet has jumped ship to the Euroseries. Thanks to Mercedes Benz and Opel Adam Carroll, Lewis Hamilton and Jamie Green all look set to race in the rival series next year.

They are in all seriousness the only 3 drivers who could have been on the grid next year who would offer Piquet a real threat.

I did have one thought though, what would be the chances of Rosberg racing UK F3 with Carlin next year? Just imagine the publicity of those two racing in the same series, imagine how competitive it would be and imagine how it might actually make 2004 look interesting! Rosberg's racing with Carlin in the Far East at the mo does anyone know how good the chances of this actually happening are?

If Davison and Power get enough cash for a 2nd campaign, they can absolutely challenge Rosberg. With a season to get used to the cars, and in Power's case the circuits as well, if they land a good ride, then maybe they can show their true talent.

Otherwise, you make a very valid point. Sad to say it, but I think Euroseries is the new standard in F3. In fact, I think it probably was in 2003.

Behave, neither Davison or Power looked anywhere near Piquet's league this year bar Davison's one showing at Croft!

Forgot about Rosberg's team yeah, that seems unlikely now. The only reason Euroseries is the standard is because of Mercedes. That's the only reason Hamilton and Green have gone there because they have contracts

We'll just have to hope Carroll and Carlin can hook up, see he's driving for them this weekend in Korea which could be a first step!

Yep agree - Piquet at a canter. The only problem with F3 (and other Formula come to that), is it costs a great deal of money to participate and guarantees you absolutely nothing even if you win a championship.Hynes and Kerr are prime examples.Shouldn't the promoters be doing something by way of a prize drive or hefty financial reward?

Er... did you see Piquet at Macau?

No - me neither.

I actually think there's a fair few drivers who could give Piquet a run for his money in 2004 - drivers who you might not give credit to currently, either because they were in inferior machines to Half-Nelson in 2003, or because they were in the schoolboy class (which amounts to pretty much the same thing), or because they weren't able to race for lack of sponsorship.

Plus there's a bunch of people potentially coming up from FRenault who aren't half bad, and let's not forget that Jamie Green was a F3 rookie and he beat the Brazilian.

I still reckon Piquet has got to be your favourite for the Championship (especially if he eschews his own team in favour of Hitech), but it won't be that much of a pushover.

And anyway, 2003 was a pretty exciting and competitive season, and van der Merwe basically walked it.

A prize test drive would be a good idea - I reckon an arrangement with F1 teams for a prize test for each of the top 3 in the Champ class would seal a competitive entry!

The two Wills (Power and Davidson) will give Piquet a run for his money. I still think Will Power is one of the quickest guys I've ever seen.

Unfortunately, Euroseries is pulling drivers mostly for economic reasons.

Skypop - Fauzy is likely to have a Champ class seat with T-Sport. They are hoping to field a Champ class car next year, and he's doing all their winter testing (when he gets back from the Far East).

Aircon - if you think Will Power is one of the quickest guys you've ever seen, then you obviously weren't watching British F3 last year. 8¬)

Lloyd from Formula Renualt could be a contender to Piquet in F3 if he gets a drive.
