VSCC Measham Rally 2016

The Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) holds its annual road rally each January - the Measham Rally. This year it was based in North Yorkshire with the start / finish being the local Auction Mart - normally more used to seeing the sales of cattle, poultry etc.

This event is often held in freezing conditions and sometimes snow. Starting at 9pm last Saturday night and running through until 6am Sunday, this year was no exception with snow experienced as the cars passed through some rural areas. I attended the assembly, scrutineering and start, so a couple of batches of images provided, hopefully to give a 'feel' for the event.

Cheers Mike. It was a Singer Le Mans.

It's a good event, very popular with those that take part but numbers have fallen in recent years. Bit of a debate within VSCC members as to how get the numbers up I understand.

Should be an article and photos in the next edition of Classic & Sports Car Magazine.

Vscc will have move into 21 st century if they are to succeed and not wither away.

A club is run on behalf of its members not a minority that hold power.

People do Flying Scotsman type things rather than Measham

I don't know much about the inner workings or problems of the VSCC John so I can't really comment on that. I know you've mentioned this issue before so there is obviously something amiss.

I just enjoy their events from a spectating / photographing point of view - their race events in particular seem to draw good crowds. The trials seem to have good entries as well. Maybe the Measham is more of a niche event these days - I think some members are open to widening the class to some post-war cars up to the late 1950s for example.

So are you suggesting that the VSCC should be look to organising longer rallies of the type that ERA and HERO do then? If so, maybe too late to get into that market to complete with those players?

Gary, thanks for posting the photos. I had a look at the event report and other items on VSCC website, which I found interesting. Now planning to go to my first VSCC race meeting, most likely Oulton Park

Malcolm, the Oulton Park event is normally a good one - at least it was last year, about 10 races I think. The last race of the day was a team / relay race which was quite entertaining - especially watching it unfold in the pits! They may do the same this year.

If you're interested in watching one of their trials they have one in Scotland in April - based near Biggar I think. Normally one or two hills are open for spectators at trials and I presume Scotland is the same.

Daylight rallies would possibly improve entries.

Night rallies with one candle light are crazy.

Navigation as the larger pre war events.
