The Hrt Kid should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The Great Race Books

I was just wondering about these books. When did they begin and is there a shop or something that sells past editions?

There were three versions of 'Australia's Greatest Motor Race' produced:

* 1960 - 1980
* 1960 - 1989 (titled 'the first 30 years')
* 1960 - 1999 (titled 'the first 40 years')

There has been a 'Great Race' book published every year since 1981, and from 1981 - 1987, these books were titled 'James Hardie 1000', rather then 'The Great Race'

In 1997 and 1998 'The Great Race' covered the traditional AMP Bathurst 1000, while a new book, 'V8 Bathurst', covered the 1997 Primus 1000 Classic and the following 1998 FAI 1000 Classic.

There were also for some years a 'rival' series of books for each years Bathurst race title, appropriatly, 'BATHURST'. This series of books ran from 1982 until about 1988.

Some of the early one's are out of print nowadays, but if you look hard enough some still pop up around the place.

I do have a few double ups if anyone is interested in them, however I would possably prefer to swap them for other interesting books (Or particular issues of Aust Mtror Racing Year) rather than sell them for cash. Thats why I havent put them onto Ebay!

It's not our 'Great Race' book but if anyone has any older editions of the Le Mans 24 hour annual they want to get rid of, let me know.

I have the complete collection of both Australian Motor Racing Year and the Great Race Books. I treasure them and hope to pass them on to my kids one day (if I can get them to appreciate motorsport).

It's a pity that Australian Motor Racing Year was not a viable proposition for Chevron and they discontinued it.

They are well written and researched. Some of the older editions make great reading now.
