I dunno, if Oreca were running the cars they could still be competitve I think. At least mixing it with the 550s and C5R's. Perhaps not new cars like the MC12 DBR9 and C6R though...

you really think the Viper could mix it up with the 550 and C5-R? huh, maybe so now that i think of it, but i just don't know if that chassis had that much more speed left in it. with new michelins and pro drivers maybe so...

just thinking of the old oreca cars makes me want some Vipers running at the front again. PLEASE DEVELOP THE NEXT GEN GTS-R ORECA, PLEASE!!!

More work on the engine, better drivers, factory Michelins (as opposed to customer rubber), aero revisions... loads to be done...

But the differences now are in fractions of percentages as opposed to leaps and bounds....

i definitely think that people are looking past the 550 too Regis... i would take a 550 any day over a S7-R, 575, R-GT, and for the price, even a MC-12. the 550 has been every bit as fast as the MC-12 so far and it is a very reliable platform. i would definitely take a look at Care's lease program for 2005 if I were a team owner

Sorry for the language, but no ****ing way that a Viper could get up to speed with the MC12/Saleens/550. Larbre always had the latest Oreca stuff, the best Michelins and a top driver in the form of Bouchut, and in 2003 they couldn't keep up anymore already. Imagine how that would be with the current opposition. I'm sure Oreca could improve the car to be faster then Zwaans or Veregra. But to say that they could get it back on speed with the MC12 for example is like saying that Porsche could get the 993 GT2 on speed with them.

Not really, the 911 GT2 was never as fast as the Vipers. Remember 1999/2000 anyone? How many times did a Porsche GT2 win during those years?

have to agree - even at spa in 2003, where you'd expect the viper to go well bouchot was no match on pace for the bms 550's, van de poele in konrads saleen or jcw's and piccini's listers

No kidding In 1999/2000 the Porsche was getting old already, while the Viper was at the top of it's potential after 3 years of developing. 1999/2000 was what last year was for the Prodrive 550's. The 993 was a good car, but born in the wrong years -> the era of the McLarenF1, Ferrari F40, the good old BPR era.

Agreed but the car did finish in 4th place overall at the Spa 24hrs, and did qualify a very respectable 7th place overall, and not the fastest Viper out there either, Force one got their car 4th in qualifying. The Labre Viper started ahead of more Ferrari 550s than were behind it.

FYI : Jack Leconte (Larbre) mentionned in the last Lm Racing issue that they'll try to enter two 550 at LM (at least one is already qualified), and are in touch with Don Panoz for an Esperante GT2 program (but still working on it for now, no confirmation)...

Excellent news Fab! Will be intresting to see if the #1 Labre car can hang with the Vettes, DBR9's and MC12's, not to mention the BMS 550's and privateer S7R's. GT1 really will be the class to watch next year, sure not for the overall win perhaps but I bet u theres gonna be a darn site more RACING going on in the GT1 class than ull see in LMP 1...

wasn't it already confirmed that Larbre has purchased two Esperantes?

I think Fab means some kind of "works" programme, or "works assisted" programme in assosiation with Panoz.

No, and it's still not confirmed that they did... I think they won't "buy" the cars...

Remember the first two hours at LM this year ? The five cars (2xVettes and 3x550) altogether ?
