i would have thought 510kg would have been a better option, because the cars are "roomy" they are popular for the bigger driver, but well-done on agreeing an all -up weight, I wish other series would follow suit.

Australia, Germany plus some other Eoropean series (I believe) and NW UK have adopted 500Kg, others have been seriously considering and as you say we have a share in portly partakers. It makes sense.

If there were enough portly folk then you could create a "Heavy Class". Been done in Karting - Rotax 177 - and is catching on.

Mind you even then there would need to be a special batch of aluminium Kent engines to cater for the extremes.

At 500kg the likes of Amanda will be carrying lead...

HRSR has run driver inclusive minimum weights for a couple of years. Still didn't stop slip of a lad Dan Cox from winning again this year.

Is there not a possible safety issue here ?

Take a look at the photos of Amanda's Mallory shunt and picture the same incident but with a few kilos of lead weights flying about as well....

A lot of the damage to Amandas legs was caused by the battery breaking loose, although the forces involved in her shunt must have far exceeded normal engineering expectations. So yes a safety issue does exist, however a simple solution is to use a steel floortray which will add strength and stiffness to the car plus get the weight down low.If I wasnt already overweight I would use this myself.

The Historic formula fords were originally built to a 400Kg weight limit, today we have to run a fire extinguisher and a fuel tank fire bulkhead - a total extra weight of around 5Kgs. The cars ( if nicely restored) should all have to carry some ballast. My Merlyn can carry as much as 15Kgs of ballast if we run the fuel right on the edge, the Titan around 10 Kgs and almost none in the 51 (heavy bodywork and a bigger, heavier adapter plate) so there is already ballast around and it is not rocket science to secure it safely. I also think the tyres are lighter than the period road tyres.

think it's a good move for the hff to introduce a combined weight and to me it's the best c-ship the hscc has, which is sometimes over-looked.
I used to race an rp2 but I got comments from ppl saying i was sitting on it rather than in it (6ft 5), is the palliser the biggest/longets f-ford?.

The Palliser has the reputation of being the "most accomodating". For persons of a wider girth, that means wide, and I would think that it's Brabham-like chassis layout means that taller drivers should be ok as well.

Maybe somebody should start making "continuations"?

... I'll get me coat

If we're going to have "Continuation" cars made then there ought to be sufficient weight allowance to build them in different sizes - XS,S,M.L.XL & XXL. Everybody could be accomodated.
