Yeah. These 2 at the front are so close. Neither nailed the perfect lap, but that just made it more interesting. Brilliant to see and actually hear so many fans.

George Russell was great again of course, on the day that the person he may replace did a real team job for Mercedes.

Does anybody know why there yellow track markings on the outside of Luffield ?


I have not seen those used before. I did not see them anywhere else at Silverstone.

Apparently it was from a bike meeting earlier in the year/late last year as a jocker lap for penalties

Great intro BR - you just keep excelling with the intros! One suggestion though - the description of the early years at Brooklands should have the drivers "on" their cars rather than "in" - to make it more period authentic old boy!

Good job by McLaren and Lando to get up there and another great performance by Russell, showing his talent again. I think Merc could be tough to beat this weekend though, but we'll see if anyone can upset the odds or come through

Definitely will be! The Aston Martin sounds good, and although it's a pity you're not there, you can live some of the atmosphere on the telly. It looks electric. The year away has whetted everyone's appetite.

Do the rules keep changing?

I’m certain I saw SKY F1 put up a caption & speaking about the fact that soft tyres can only be used in qualifying & only 1 set in Q3. Yet in FP2 they’re running softs?

So i could be wrong on this.

For this weekend each teams gets 6 sets of softs, 4 mediums, and 2 hards.

Fp1 - can use any 2 compounds of their choice.

Fri quali - can use up to 5 softs.

Fp2 - can only use one compound of their choice.

Sat sprint - can choose between any 2 different compounds of their choice but no mandatory stops and tire(s) used is returned to Pirelli after the race.

Race - must use any combination of 2 different compounds from whatever sets they have remaining with no requirements for the top 10 in quali to start the race on the same set they used to set their fastest q2 time on.

I was wrong. you can use soft tyres whenever you want but its the only compound ALLOWED to be used in qualifying.

This - with a few additional caveats.

The teams were required to set aside five sets of soft tyres, and two sets of race tyres, which are not permitted to be used in any other session over the weekend. (There are also certain rules regarding wet running, but that has not been a factor).

One question i did have have was what happens to the unused sets of softs after quali... particularly as it applies to fri q3 runners?

A q3 runner might use up all 6 sets between fp1 and fri quali which could effectively remove a fresh set of softs as an option come race day.

This may be great for q2/midfield teams?

Whole new element to strategy here which i like.
