Mrs BugEyed should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
VSCC Events 2004

Great News

All details (apart from the Historic Silverstone June meeting) are now available on the VSCC website. I can thoroughly recommend any of these, as a competitor, spectator or marshal.

If you would like information about "members only" events, please PM me or watch out for the threads here as they arrive!!!

Why not join us in our 70th year?????

Great news indeed, but...
I was somewhat dismayed to read, in the (current) Automobile report on Westcott Park driving tests (held last December) that...
"the next VSCC occasion will be the Herefordshire Trial on 20-21 March"

Taking into account publication dates which would exclude, for example, the Brooklands driving tests and the Measham Rally, whatever happened to:

The Exmoor Trial
The Exmoor Tour
The Pomeroy Trophy
The Derbyshire Trial
The Derbyshire Tour

and that's without including the noggins and section events and before the race & speed events really get underway for 2004.

Busy club the VSCC, the Automobile should be kept better informed.

Chris
But aren't these the events that are held "behind closed doors"?

Roland,
Indeed they are, or at least they appear in the list of Members events, rather than in the Public section.
However, Wescott and the Herefordshire fall into the same category:confused:

I have read this and similar threads and I am very confused
what has happened at VSCC? I get the monthly newsletter and nothing seems to have changed is it just the website (which I must confess to never looking at) The VSCC race days are pretty well publicised arent they?

One vocal member on the club forum doesn't agree with the club's policy on big race meetings. In fact your post that the June Historic meeting will be a joint VSCC/HSCC/BRDC meet will make him SEE-RED again!

Also some changes on the forum were imposed ineligantly

David

To an extent you misrepresent me.

I do not disagree in principle with the VSCC organising "festival" type events. What I question is the following:
  • whether VSCC volunteer labour (such as Marshals) should be taken advantage of to subsidise races for non-members in non-VSCC type cars, particularly where these are semi-professional concerns, eg SHFMC.
  • whether the costs of organising these meetings is correctly accounted for within the VSCC organisation, particularly with regard to the use of VSCC competition department time.
As I have lost the first argument (don't volunteer if you don't want to ), and the second question is resolutely ignored by the Club Office and Committee, I am left isolated.

If I adopted a suggested approach, I could cease putting back into the club whilst continuing to attend those events I chose to meet up with friends. I still wish to input into the club, hence I will participate in most events this year (either as a competitor or a Marshal). However, as a critical friend, I'll continue to seek answers about the accounting for certain events.

Some events are not public due to concerns over insurance and lack of facilities. I find Trials superb - but they are so good despite the lack of spectator facilities, which if they exist are very limited. Often the land owners would not be able/willing to accept spectators due to concerns over access and liability. At present the Club finds it difficult to find suitable venues, let alone the latest concerns, without the worry of public access. Let's hope that they continue.

When it comes to Rallies, we can't even find half of the time controls - and I don't just mean when we are competing but when we are organising. The difficulty of finding suitable locations for TC's despite objectors should not be underestimated.

See you all at the weekend.

Gosh Duncan, don't worry, you are not the only vocal member!

On the other place, last week I posted a very well sourced rumour that reached my ears, concerning lack of track time for eligible VSCC cars at the See Red, Donington Meeting, and got my knuckles rapped!

Of course, now that its a 'closed'forum, I can say things that I would not on a 'open' one! Its a two edged sword closing a forum.

If the rumour is true then many VSCC members will indeed be seeing red!

PS. I have had to use another computer cos a 'trojan horse' virus scrambled mine, starting by refusing acess to the database files used by my antivirus program!

For the time being I am offline at home while I reboot to windows, set everything up blah blah... and as I was at the Pom I won't be home to do it for a few days.

So, be very careful one and all, and use a firewall.
