The guy selling the car said they were called "Land Crabs". He kept on about how well they drove and that the car sat low and drove smooth. He said nothing about how the sub frames did not line up hence they would driver along the road crabbing.I still fancy an Austin 7.

Thanks delta, I did not know the reason of the nickname. Last time I spotted a Baby Austin, it had drums all round, a 4 speed gearbox and a compressor. Very fast. You could go for either a Rosengart or a Dixie.

Iain I did some work on one some while back and gave it a road test, it was only then that I realised how cars had progressed over the years. It had no performance/hardly any braking and vague steering, mind you at least it wouldn't let you go to sleep

My first ever car was a Land Crab.
I did a deal with my parents - no moped and I could have my Dads car for my 17th birthday, it was 4 years old and I thought it was the dogs b......s.
So did most of my friends, as I could transport so many around in it.
It was good for karting too, as the kart minus wheels went on the roof rack, and everything else inside.
Happy days.

I used a land crab (Morris 1800) as a tow car for our rally Imp for several years - it was a good car with a huge amount of room in it. Only two issues - once the hydrolastic pipes under the bonnet rubbed together puncturing one so I had a very lop-sided and bumpy land crab for a bit......and then the (very rare) power steeing on it failed - which wouldn't have been so bad but someone had replaced the normal bus-sized tiller with a 13" Mota-Lita wheel......so the steering was a bit heavy!

It's a strange world......as I came back from the chemists at lunchtime today a white Mk2 landcrab like the one I had was queuing alongside my parked car....first one I've seen for a while. Looked in good nick.

There's an Austin 1800 Mk2 coming up for auction in Holland as part of a 280-car 'barn find' collection

... and yes, Richard, there are also rather a large number of Alfa's included!

How was Duxford?

My guess is that around 90% of sales of film SLRs and certainly the later Digital bodies were almost never used and also reside in desk drawers and the back of wardrobes around the world.

It may be nearer 95%

Lenses too, when people bought something to add greater choice to the "kit lens".

Now that so many phones are so photographically competent, compared to user expectations and needs, I could see the entire non-phone camera market shrinking dramatically once again.

Talking about Landcrabs, I have yet to find out where our family Morris 1800 now lives in its very revised "London to Sydney Marathon" cosmetic makeover.

However, I did stumble across this during a quick browse.

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/a0/89...34a966f502.jpg

Very interesting.

That auction list in Holland also shows a Triumph 2000 Convertible.

"Triumph 2000 20TR Convertible 1970"

Not something I can recall.

Presumably it means it's a Vitesse?

Very interesting.

We manufactured the 1800 under licence here in Aus for many years.... we also designed and manufactured a 2 door version in both Mk1&2 guise. Not a 2 door coupe of course..... this is Australia, home of the "Ute". Had a bench seat and floor shift.

more pics https://www.justcars.com.au/cars-for...ity/JCW5184237

Then in the UK you had the 2200 / Wolesley 6..... We had the locally made Austin Tasman X6.
