Karting Bodywork
Hi,
Does anypne know what the difference between "Reed" and "Rotary" boadwork is? I believe Rotary is the type that has the cut out for Radiators (what i currently have) but what is "Reed"? I also saw while racing on saturday that some of my competitors have a more sleeker curved nosel pannel as can be seen on kart #73 http://www.bdkc.co.uk/images/skilton_250803.jpg compared to the more conventional one of 36 which is like what mine is. And i wondered if perhaps one of those kits includes the sleeker nossel pannel? I probably sound like i'm talking a load of ****!! Cheers! Last edited by speedy king; 27 Oct 2003 at 14:11. |

You are right about the rotary bodywork having a cut out but it was originally meant for rotary valve 100cc FA engines which have the carb on the side of the engines because the rotary valve spins with the crankshaft.
Reed bodywork is for reed valve engines like the Rotax Max or ICA engines that have the carb out the front of the engine in front of the reed cage which is behind that rubber boot that your carb is attached to. There are two main makers of bodywork, KG and Righetti Ridolfi. Like most things in karting both of them are Italian manufacturers. The CRG in your photo has a KG nose cone which is the style that I prefer. The RR bodywork looks the same to untrained (not tarty) eye but there are differences in the overall profile. I am sure you have seen some of the new bodywork on 2003 and 2004 model karts that are going round in some of the classes. My kart is a 2002 CRG and it is illegal to race with the 2003/4 bodywork on it.. |

The new body work that has been raced in Europe and will be allowed in to Britain in 2004 i don't personally like. It looks a bit weak and tacky dare i say it. Will the new style be allowed in all classes as in Karting Magazine i could only read about it being allowed in TKM. will it be allowed in Junior Rotax?

It will be allowed in all ABKC classes from the start of 2004 but only on 2003 onward chassis.
I quite like it now, some models are definatly better than others. The KG and tonykart stuff is quite good but I reckon the Freeline(birel) bodywork is best. |

Ah, my current chassis is 2001 so it wouldn't be allowed anyway?

Interestingly although the new bodywork looks like it is on slim fast it is actually HEAVIER apparently than current bodywork, and for me, weight is the last thing i need added to my kart!

The Pod bars are different as well thats why you cant really use it on pre 2003 karts. Its a hell-of-alot stronger thats why its heavier, well the freeline and tonykart (OTK) is. The KG stuff isnt alot heavier or stronger.
