Prescott Hill W/end 25/26th Sept 04
Hi all,
following the great response to my earlier post about hillclimbing I was wondering if anybody is going to the above event next weekend. I was thinking of going, seeing what it was like etc. Has anybody been to events at this venue and what have been thier experiences of it? I was thinking that I may post some pictures if I can find the camera! |

Hi icycool
The Butler tells me that many top drivers will be at Prescott. The old buffers are excited that Adam Fleetwood will be driving the new Rob Turnbull Gould. Do have a look at other threads on hillclimb. So the dog will be there as usual! Bring the camera and we hope to see you there. Love Abigail |

Sounds good, look forward to meeting others there, do you congregate in one area or do you move around?

There'll be a crowd of 10/10ths marshals there as usual. It's a great venue with excellent viewing from several areas, and quite close to the track too if you're taking photos.
Worth going if only to see the newly crowned champion in a Ford HB engined Gould, which will probably be worth the admission cost alone. |

What it is not is in any way representative of grass roots speed events. You are unlikely to find the mix of classes you will at venues more representative of the strong roadgoing structure that exists elsewhere. On those dates, Longleat would normally provide a good mix of the regional classes but I'm told even that has been submerged by "one make" classes this year.

I would disagree. I believe this meeting is also a round of the Aldon Automitive Speed Championship which attracts road going cars (if thats your cup of tea!).
I would have no doubt that this meeting will have everything from roadgoing cars, sports cars and racing cars. However, I am sure that no one would want to miss one of the last chances of 2004 to see the fastest and most talented speed eventers and thier cars in action. |

blackx and myself were going to bring the caravan for it's last outing of the year.... Having checked the weather outlook we have changed our minds as we all know what Prescott's like when it's wet!!
So the way things stand at the minute, blackx will be there on the rescue unit both days, and I may well venture along on the Sunday with the kids just to say "until next season" oh and not for getting "Merry Christmas" ( ) to everyone... Shireen |

Yet again we see the usual over-protective reaction! Which Regional Association championships are running at Prescott? (Aldon/HSA is not and uses the strange roadgoing regulations of the venue not any MSA region). Therefore it is not representative of the grass roots of the sport to a newcomer, which is the point of this thread. A warning therefore needs to be sounded not to assume the classes seen are the ones used elsewhere - something too many newcomers have wasted inordinate sums of money on in the past.

Sorry. Not been over protective, just saying that the Aldon Championship can be entered by newcomers and the meeting will have a variety of cars (IMO), plus the top runners of the hillclimb scene. Therefore I think it would be a good meeting to attend. Go and enjoy yourself Icycool!

That, Icycool, serves to explain some of the problems you will face if you proceed to compete in hill climbs. As you say, your question is a follow-on to your previous thread, so it is essential you and others new to potentially competing do not obtain a misleading picture of what classes of car generally run in speed events from an initial visit to one better known venue. As you see above, highlighting that certain venues are not typical of the wider speed world (for reasons that would require a book not a thread/post!)touches a raw nerve with some. If we save one new competitor any car preparation costs at all arising from a misleading impression of the wider regional class structure and the classes run at most events, we have done something useful in the often bizarre world of speed events.

One can only assume that you have an "axe to grind" with the hillclimbing fraternity....
I have said it before and I will say it again, I can only conclude that you have never been to a hillclimb... Your attitude is one I would expect to hear from a spoilt child rather than an adult... |

That's a little harsh, MrsB. Although it does seem as though there is a grude being borne, I take the point that entries may be difficult to obtain at some hills for the casual competitor. Sure, some meetings and venues attract more competitor interest and suffer from over-subscribed entries, and some are better suited to more road going classes and 'let's drive what I've got'. That's no different from rallying, and just as much fun can be had at an airfield single venue event as on the Manx national. I'm not sure I really understand why this complaint is being aired in this thread, though. Speed events, from a humble beginners do at Curborough right through to a British championshop round at Shelsley is a friendly sport, which is not the impression being given by Anuauto. It's unfair to knock Prescott because it's not mainly made up of hot-hatches, but then it is a meeting for the more 'serious' minded, with championshop positions to be settled. There'll still be a cross section of cars in all classes from Minis to F1 engined single seaters, though, and all will be friendly and welcoming as usual.
Icycool, be sure to stop by the marshals' pound at lunchtime or at the end and say hello (look for the 10/10ths patches on the overalls), and let us know how you're getting on. Regardless of suggestions to the contrary, I'm sure you'll have a very enjoyable day. |

Please can we get back to the point of this thread.
I will be there for both days and I am looking forward to seeing some good compatition. Icycool if I were you I would move about the course instead of staying in one position, so you can see all the course. Also if it is good weather you will get some brillient shots of the cars going up hill with the countryside in the back ground. Andrew |

it seems that anuauto must not have followed hillcliming very closly as the aldon hsa chamionship allows cars from standard road cars up to full race cars and vist many different venues around the country give a wide verity of venues for drivers to compet on .as mrs blackx said it sounds like somebody has an "axe to grind"
