driftwood has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
sounds plausible that arthur coller is related to john collier
which b19 chassis did he have if he bought it new?
a photo wil be very useful

Dijon (E2lSC Round 4) 4 Jun 1972 (MN 8 Jun 1972 p7)

-- Red Rose/Tergal: Hine ("brand new chassis" with "brand new Chevy-Cosworth EA" engine)
AL. Red Rose: Bridges B19 (1.8 FVC)
-- Red Rose/Tergal: Juncadella B21 (1.9 Smith)
-- Red Rose/Tergal: Bosch B21 (1.9 Smith)
-- Canon: Burton B21 (1.9 Smith)
-- Canon: Wolleck B21 (1.8 Smith)
-- Olivar B21
AJ. Frey
AE. Humble
-- Tuckett: Fletcher
O2. Central Garage Mirfield: Lepp B19 (ex-Red Rose B19; 1.9 Smith)
-- Quester B21 (BMW)

It looks like Red Rose have a third B21 which means that Bosche has been promoted out of the B21-bodied B19 and into a real B21. If that's right, Bridges' B19 is the car Bosch had driven previously and that probably means it's B19-71-32. But that's too speculative for my liking so I've given it a separate letter for now.

Silverstone Monday 29 May 1972 (MN 8 Jun 1972 p10)

D. Frank Aston (2.0 'Ford') 2nd in Sports GT; retired from libre
O2. George Silverwood (1.9) 3rd in Sports GP; won libre

I don't normally look at MN classified ads but this caught my eye: Tony Cicale wanting to buy a B19 or a Lola T212 "can be damaged but must be repairable".

Prescott 4 Jun (MN 9 Jun 1972 p24)

S. Reg Phillips (2nd in class; FVC)

Le Mans 10-11 Jun 1972 (MN 15 Jun 1972 pp14-16,26)

-- Robinson/Rondeau/Robinson B21
U. Dupont/Bodin/Blancpain

Mondello Park Sunday 5 Jun 1972 (MN 15 Jun 1972 p27)

C. Eddie Regan (won sports car race; FVC)

Collier was second to Regan in his Daren.

Shelsley Walsh 11 Jun 1972 (MN 15 Jun 1972 p28)

S. Reg Phillips (won class; FVC)

Tony Bancroft has been "outed" and is no longer entering himself as "Spotty Smith". He has a GT40; Scragg has a Lola T212.

They were both raced in the Phoenix Park race in Sep 1972. I still haven't found any other report of Collier's B19 being raced - which is why I made the point about him still being in his Daren. I'm only as far as May and it should turn up in August.

I read Autosport's report (8 Jun 1972 pp18,20) and it's very clear that Bridges has the former Bosch car which is actually a B19, not a B21. Also that Bosch is in the original Hine car.

Tony Bancroft returned in his old B19 to beat the present owner of the car, David Garnett.

With the exception of the words 'my' and 'stolen', that sentence is very nearly right

So does that mean you want them back again?

Back in post #344 I quoted Chris Mason's Uphill Racers book which had the same information almost word for word; was Chris the reporter in Muttering News?

Austrian 1000 kms (WCM R10) Osterreichring 25 Jun 1972 (MN 29 Jun 1972 pp14-17)

J. Gaydon/Gray "B19/21"
U. Dupont/Blancpain "B19"
AJ. Frey/Ettmüller "B19"
-- Stommelen/Hezemans B21-BMW
-- Twaites/McInerney B21
-- Juncadella/Bridges B21 ("the remaining Chevron B21-FVC")

Robinson didn't turn up; his transporter broke down.

Also, a brief mention that Roger Heavens finished second in a race at Estoril behind Gaspar's Lola T280 (MN 29 Jun 1972 p25)

Aintree ACC meeting 1 Jul 1972 (MN 6 Jul 1972 p9)

C. Eddie Regan (won GT Cars and Clubmans, 3rd in Formule Libre, 2nd in Invitation; 1.8 FVC)
D. Frank Aston (fifth in libre; 1.8 BDA)

Some way further back in the GT Cars and Clubmans race was one Vin Malkie in a Chevron B1!

A brief mention of a sports car support race at Monza 29 Jun 1972 (MN 6 Jul 1972 p8)

AG. Serblin B19 (4th)

Another brief report, this of Trento-Bondone (MN 6 Jul 1972 p23) that says Ennio Bonnomelli was sixth in a Chevron B19. I trust Autosprint more than MN for Trento-Bondone results and actually Bonomelli (one 'n') was driving a Porsche 911. So:

Trento-Bondone 2 Jul 1972 (Autosprint)

-- Anastasio "B21" (2nd in G5 1300cc class)
AG. Serblin "Chevron" (1st in G5 2000cc class)
-- Tondelli "B21" (5th in G5 2000cc class)

Silverstone Motoring News/Castrol Sport and GT Championship race 2 Jul 1972 (MN 6 Jul 1972 p24)

O2. George Silverwood B19 "1.9 FVC" (3rd)

-- Fletcher did not arrive

Hockenheim Interserie 16 Jul 1972 (MN 20 Jul 1972 p4)

U. Dupont "B19"
AG. Serblin "B19"

This will interest Drifty: Keiichi Tahara is in the UK racing a GRD in F3.

Croft BRSCC(N) 16 Jul 1972 (MN 20 Jul 1972 p7)

O2. George Silverwood "B19/21" (3rd in first libre, retired in second libre; "Smith FVC B")
-- Charles Ratcliffe in the Roger Hire B21 (DNS first libre when "savaged on the grid" by the Kincraft; retired from second libre)
-- Dave Welpton in Pete Smith's "B19/21" (not mentioned in first libre, third in second libre; 1.8 FVC)

Pontypool 16 Jul 1972 (MN 20 Jul 1972 p24)

It's probably worth pointing out at this stage that the B19 is no longer new enough or quick enough that it is guaranteed a mention in a libre report. For example, an Ingliston libre is coming up and it may not be possible to know whether Silverwood took part.

No problem, I just wondered if Chris Mason was also the author of the MN report as the wording is more or less the same!

Sorry guys, I've missed one. I got out Autosport to make sense of the Silverstone race, got distracted by "real" work, forgot I was doing it and moved straight past. So here's the race I missed.

Martini International Trophy Race, Silverstone (E2lSC R5) 18 Jun 1972 (MN 22 Jun 1972 pp8-9, AS 22 Jun 1972 pp26-30)

J. Gray
O2. Central Garage Mirfield: Lepp B19 (1.9 Smith)
AA. Geoff Richardson: Richard Scott "B21" (1.8 Richardson)
AE. Humble
AG. Serblin did not arrive
AL. Red Rose: Bridges B19 (1.9 FVC)
-- Red Rose/Tergal: Hine B21 (Vega) - HUGE accident in practice, car completely destroyed
-- Red Rose/Tergal: Juncadella B21 (1.9 Smith)
-- Red Rose/Tergal: Bosch B21 (1.8 Richardson)
-- Canon: Burton "B21" (1.9 Smith)
-- Canon: Wollek "B21" (1.9 Smith)
-- Dieter Quester B21 (BMW)
-- Robinson B21 (1850 Titan)
-- Twaites B21 (1.8 Richardson)
-- Willie Tuckett: Andrew Fletcher B21 (1.8 Felday)
-- Smith & Welpton B21 (1.8 Richardson)
-- Hire International Racing Enterprises: Peter Hanson "new B21" ("rather uncompetitive" 2-litre BRM)
-- Olivar did not arrive

Hine had been in "his normal B21 after damaging Niki Bosch's chassis when he hit a backmarker at Dijon" and Bridges "was using the B19". The Geoff Richardson car was given by both AS and MN as a B21 but the advert had given away its true identity as the ex-Abrahams car.

So, returning to the monologue:

Watkins Glen WCM 23 Jul 1972 (MN 27 Jul 1972 pp12,14)

-- Johnnie Crean/Dave Jordan "new Chevron B21"
-- John Buffum/Fred van Beuren
-- Hugh Kleinpeter/Tony Belcher
B19. Marathon Oil: Peter Schuster/Paul Perez Gama
B19. Doug Shierson/Bill Barber
AN. Pete lo Bianco/Pete Sherman

The LoBianco car appears on the Chevron production list (B18-71-33), as do the Crean, Buffum and Kleinpeter B21s. The Marathon Oil/Shierson B19s will be the same air as before but I'd need pictures to know which was round they were.

Mallory Park Sports Racing/GT Cars race 23 Jul 1972 (MN 27 Jul 1972 p24)

D. Frank Aston (won on the road but demoted to fourth for jumping the start)

There was a race at the Salzburgring 16 July 1972 (see Racingsportscars.com). Does anyone have a report on it? Rowerslide maybe? Or the German version of Sport Auto?

Alternatively, anyone know anything about Martin Pawlowski's Chevron?

pass them on please, Allen. I'll give it a try. I wasn't even aware that he was active in motorsports, in the seventies he used to sponsor several sports, (Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball) with teams playing under the name Kinzo, his tool brand.
