Here's Redman driving a B19 at Donington in July 1990. Curiously, the colour scheme is the same as Stross's.

B19 Alpina

If the Bancroft/Scragg/MacDowel/Garnett car ended up in the 1980s with Richard Thwaites it would not be his first drive in it. At Great Auclum 5 August 1972 he shared the car with Tony Bancroft when his own McLaren M10B was unavailable. He was third in class with the owner second.

In the foreword to Gordon's 1990 Chevron book, Redman says he has been drivig a B19 in historics since 1982. Another suggestion that he kept the ex-Phillips/Stross/New Mexico/Smith car.

George Hurd has owned a B19 for many years and Redman drives it for him. It's possible that ownership goes right back to 1982. Is anyone in a position to find out?

At least one owner in the last few days has refused to get involved in this debate and it's comments this one that drove him away. Yes, B21-19 was burnt out at Silverstone but the replacement car wore the same chassis plate. So if there's a car around today claiming to be B21-19, that entirely possible.

We must stop leaping to conclusions about cars. Do you have any evidence that "this car" has been built recently?

allen you shoukld know better than to make that kind of statement
what do u want signed affadavits? or just the bare facts as they are well known!!!
please ask owner to provide bill of sale from John Bridges in 1972 selling the wreck or was it sold 25 or so more years later

That's the whole point Drifty - I DO ask owners for bills of sale or equivalent documentation. I engage owners in conversation and have reasoned, dispassionate and objective conversations with them about their cars. Bare facts are fine but comments like "Amazingly this car is never seen again yet like the phoenix it rise from the ashes 35 years later!" doesn't get anyone anywhere.

I have just about finished a first draft of my Chevron B19 page. The page is now rather large - its scale is probably indicated by the fact that it contains 87 photographs of B19s, from the very start of 1971 right through to 2008. However, it is just a first draft and much more will follow.

I am keen to get the facts right and not to embarrass anyone by accidentally recycling gossip. So I want to give all interested parties a chance to comment first.

Please email me at allen@oldracingcars.com if you'd like a preview.

They have roofs. I don't do roofs.

Anyway, somebody else has been researching B8s for years and I'm happy to leave him to it.

You mean Marcus Pye? I've been trying to get him to release some of this B8 info to me for 3 years or so. He said something about it being buried in a box in his garage, or something!

Shame on you for not doing roofs; presumably you will now delete all the special saloon stuff that you have been building on yoursite!

I wonder if Allen drives around in a convertible car in the winter
B6 8 cars need own thread i believe over 100 built?
some made into Gropas then turned back into B8 cars1 or 2 have been written off and yet still exist today
perhaps we need to get B16 B19 cars sorted first before another thread is started

Thought I would send you this email I received from James Bell via this route too:

I have just come across the Chevron site and was particularly pleased to see that my old car (above) is registered. If the current owner of the car wants a bit more history then I can fill him in.
I bought the car following the end of year finals in October 1972 at Silverstone where if I can remember correctly the car won in John Lepp's hands. The car was actually owned by 2 London architect brothers called John and Leslie Gray.
In 1973, I raced the car with my long time racing partner Ian Harrower : we competed at the Nurburgring at the Interserie round in March and the 1000 km in May, the Monza 1000km and the Spa 1000km , Ian also raced the car at Villa Real and Estoril in Portugal
after we hadcome back from Angola where we raced the car at Luanda (2hours-4th),Nova Lisboa (6hours 2nd), Benguela (3hours-dsq).
In 1974 Ian raced the car at the major European 1000km races (2nd in class in Austria)
with amongst other co-drivers Ian Bracey and Richard Jones. The car again went to Angola
that year and again was reasonably successful.
In early 1975, I sold the car to Jonathan Buncombe who used the chassis as the basis for the infamous 'Chimp'.
I hope the above has been of use to you but if you want any more information please don't
hesitate to get in touch. Phone number ************

Any idea of the whereabouts of Trevor Twaites or Peter Humble.

Kind regards,

James Bell
