FPR unaffected by V8 ownership change

http://bigpondnews.com/articles/Spor...ge_789642.html
Quote:
V8 Supercars team Ford Performance Racing will operate as normal despite owners Prodrive losing road-car arm Ford Performance Vehicles to the manufacturer.
Ford will assume full control of Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) from Prodrive at the end of the year following recent poor sales, resulting in the redundancy of 32 FPV workers.
But in a short statement, Ford Performance Racing's (FPR) team principal Tim Edwards said the news won't affect the V8s team which, despite being owned by Prodrive, is run separate to FPV.

FPR write every year that they are going to win the championship too, and thus far that's not come true.

What this really means is, the team has a contract until 2013. After that who knows. Prodrive is a business, it runs race teams for profit. Whether FPR can stand alone without significant funding from Ford & FPV is a point to be proven.

I think they are going to have to actually start charging commercial rates and therefore not undercut other teams for sponsorships now...

What is the deal between FPR and FPV? Do Prodrive own FPR outright or is it part owned with Ford? Are FPV and Ford now just a sponsor of the team?

Would be great for Prodrive to continue as a team not unlike Triple 8

Yes Prodrive are the 100% owners off FPR, as maufacturers are not allowed to own race teams.

I'm wondering if FPV (soon to be owned entirely by Ford) will continue to sponsor FPR.

previusly FPR with its similar owner was used as a marketing tool for FPV vehicles, as well as for the Ford brand, this may bot continue in the new year.

Also there was some economies of scale in this past as FPV employees would carry out some of the administrative functions of FPR. this would stop going forward as why would Ford provide this function for another company

With a change in ownership of the Trading Post, will it continue as a sponsor?

Trading Post chose not to renew its deal with FPR anyway

I dont see the upside for Carsales.com

They are far and away the dominant market player under a variety of brands, a strategy which seems to convince the consumer they are dealing with different players.. when they are not..

Drive.com.au is the closest rival, yet it lacks the reach, depth and outright investment that Carsales makes in their product and platform

Arguably Carsales could have grown this kind of business organically.. would have taken longer..

1. Removes a potentially strong competitor from the market - Telstra/Sensis have deep pockets.
2. No mention of the dollar amount, ie its embarrassingly small.
3. SEO benefit alone would be significant.

Its Telstra, its big because it has been there since the first communications on stone tablets, but they are so non-customer driven, they imploded like an underdone souffle!

The attached article suggests that Telstra may be retaining the mast heads too..

The headline is misleading.... Trading Post/Telstra are most likely paying Carsales, either a service provision fee or commission based fees!

Is FPR Doomed?

The article goes on to suggest that should prodrive not achieve manufacturer backing beyond 2013, that its not impossible that the whole operation could be sold/shuttered...

It's a fairly naive article.

Mentions that Prodrive left the WRC to pursue 'other interests' whereas we all know that is far from the truth - Subaru left.

also mentions that Prodrive have been running Mini's on the WRC this year - again another mistruth in that it's clear that a) they have not done that, and that's because b) Prodrive failed to find the funding for the project and indeed annoyed the bosses in Munich so much they cut the ties.

Seems to have a very rose coloured view of the kids from Banbury....

its really a question that could be asked about any team though.

Will HRt leave holden at the end of 2014(15 whenever the date is)

Whenever there is a life on a contract, then there is risk at the end.

Of course switching brands when there is a reasonable deal available from the current brand carries some risk of losing the support base

Yes, and of course all but two teams at the moment survive quite happily without having a road car deal with the manufacturer. T8 seemed to manage reasonably well...

888 doesnt need a road car deal... they sell more race cars than FPV sells road cars anyway

T8 = quite happy - unaligned with a manufacturer in a road car enhancement deal

Well 888 is still factory backed which I thought was the point you were trying to make.

Also if we're talking road car enhancement deals.

How are DJR going?

Or what about Wayne Gardiner Racing?
