I do recall during the qualifying McNish saying that the car always bottoms out a little going through that spot.

I raced at spa for the first time last year in a Radical SR3 and the car does slightly bottom out at that point, you've gotta be very careful not to get unnerved and over correct the car, it's a hell of a corner especially flat in a downforce car. You can also see basically tracks in the tarmac at the beginning of the corner where cars had bottomed out in the past

Seems Rebellion are the only team that could beat Toyota. Well done them so far. Shame for Pietro, not a good start for a big opportunity for him

What bad news for Petro, this was just a replacement for a race, while his real interest is at Indy and a career in F1.

Winter was quite good, and after 2 days of official competition LMP1 is falling apart. Two cars out without a fight, one down with an injured driver, ACO pinning most of them down...
I have never had this feeling before : I am sad for the competition and the championship. |

I wonder if there's anyone that knows better than I do, but it seems that in terms of race pace--at least on a clear lap--that at least Rebellion is fairly close to Toyota.
I'd actually imagine that depending on where they catch traffic that the Toyotas may be more inconsistent because of lift and coast and they can't always rely on the hybrid or cranking up the engine power because of the fuel consumption limits. I'd expect them to drop probably 3-4+ seconds in race pace vs qualifying. Question is how much are Rebellion expected to drop between qualifying and the race in terms of pace. |

I expect Toyota to do 1:58's, maybe 1:57's at best. Where they make that time is key. If the other lmp1's can jump them on the straights, they may play blockers. But if Toyota keeps them behind it'll be hard.

I'd look at that as maybe like the Audi R8 at Le Mans. Usually not that fast down the straights but even back then the R8 out accelerated everyone because of having more torque with the forced induction V8 it had. Sort of replace forced induction with hybrid (yes, the TS050 also has a turbocharged engine), and you get sort of the same effect.
A lot might depend on relative pace and traffic. If they Toyota's get a big enough jump with that hybrid, they can maybe play defense if they need to. If the straight line speed sectors favor the sustained power of the LMP1 privateers, then they maybe can knock Toyota off kilter. |

Ouch.
http://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/n...ow-infraction/ Pitlane start 1 lap down for #7 due to fuel flow meter irregularities. |

Strangely (or maybe not), it seems that the Toyotas are actually struggling relative to the privateers in Sector 2, where all the twisty stuff is. That's from the free practice sector times.

Typical imo. The new cars have lots of downforce. They're allowed wider rear wings and front diveplanes. Bart Hayden from Rebellion said this in an interview about body kits. |

Thing also is that Rebellion isn't that far ahead of Toyota in terms of top speed, which IMO means that the new Oreca probably has much better aero than the old R-One ever did.

Wonder if they'll dump the sand out of it, or sacrifice it?

The pace looks similar to last year's low downforce car except in qualifying. Then if you compare that, they sat for a good 15-20 minutes before they went out. And there was no Porsche to push them either

Indeed. Afterall, the R13 is the ultimate evolution of the R-One, going through the 05 and 07 Orecas.

Toyota said they marked down the wrong part number before scrutineering. This team always finds the most bizarre ways of screwing up.

It's not that big of a deal. The race is 6 hours long. Starting at the back or even a lap down is easy to overcome, especially when you're the fastest car.

So that moves Fred on pole, seems he used up all his bad luck in 2017!

Kobayashi commented on this mistake on twitter (according to him, cause is inputting an incorrect number on the PC, typo?). He takes it positively to win the race.
