Biante Touring Car Masters Series
Can anyone tell us what is happening with this series and if it still exists, all is very quiet on their front, was it such a good idea going alone outside of Historics after all ???

It wasnt the quickest thing in a straight line, but the driver was absolutely consistent in braking points and where the car sat on the road... every lap... so when the hotshots with the better grunt blew past on the front straight, and the brakes started to complain, Mr Richards still had plenty in reserve.. |

The Biante Series has not been on TV this year but will be on 7's coverage of the Muscle Car Masters this Saturday and their Sunday morning race at Bathurst will also be shown. As for the Datsun the series is only open to Franchise holders and as these have been thin on the ground this year with smallish grids by past standards the rule the organisers have had to let in a car thatwasn't quite what was envisaged in their original vision.

The Datsun is a nicely presented little car though.... puts a few of the others in the same field to shame!

thanks Alan.
its seemed out of place, the rest of the field ran pretty close together, but the Dato was lapped after 4 laps and i would imagine thats not what the series organiser planned |

It also had a flat engine at one point, which wouldnt have helped. If I recall correctly, Mr C.Mason was also a P-plater at this meeting...

It actuall did finish though, which from memeory is better that a couple of others did...... Why not winge about the Porche as well.
IMO both these cars represent what touring car racing was like in the past, so why not. |

Over 5 Lt, 3.5 - 5 Lt, 2 Lt - 3.5 Lt and up to 2 Lt. The concept is to represent the period with cars that raced in the period (as it is in Nb/Nc). This should be extended to cars that were eligible to race here (AMC Javelins / Challenger / Chevelle (well they let in then Falcon Sprint?). The TCM does offer high exposure (to those that can afford it) on the V8SCA card and freedoms to make the cars more reliable. The Datto had every right to be there! When the Stillwell's bring out the Escort(s) and add the two 105 Alfa's and the two RX3's, the Datto will not look out of place! Jum dud good in the Camaro! I hope he's in it at Bathurst! It will have rear disc's by then. |

It's funny, the general thought (i took it anyway) was when the Biante Series broke away from being a 5th category that Group Nc would be left to struggle abit, while the Biante Touring Car Masters would flourish.
Going by the Muscle Car Masters (i wasn't at Sandown), the exact opposite has happened (bearing in mind of course the MCM is an historic meeting), especially as the Biante Series could only muster about 15 cars for its final race that weekend. Any word on the rumour that the Biante Touring Car Masters were going to increase the eligibility years beyond 1973 (to around 1975?) |

The split has been be a waste Biante under the Group 5 banner as it was before it was a great show, the few who wanted the split to make there cars more reliable has not done so. the advertising dollar and media is not there weather its Australia Muscle Car Masters Series or Biante Historic Touring Cars you are still lowest bill on the card at V8 Supercar Meetings
