The REC setup didn't come into play til 2000/2001, didn't it?

Before that, teams were level 1, 2, 3, but not sure what was in place when AVESCO happened.

Nah, prize money was still paid - just much bigger amounts than teams had ever received from promoters.

Somewhere around 2002 it changed to be a higher proportion as appearance money but prize money still existed.

Not sure about current situation, might have done away with prize money now & just stuck with appearance money - either way prize money was still there quite some years after 97.

Prize money is still paid, its just considered rude here for some reason to advertise it, so they call it appearance money......

Just find the court documents from the Longhurst/Dynamik case and you'll see they made about $500-600K for the mid to back of the pack run they had one year.
