Yeah he did! Hanley was clearly the fastest driver in the car. You can view the times on the alkamel systems site and see he wasn't just the guy who put in their fastest lap, but on average was faster than Van der Zande too.

Agreed. Why do the new rules have to move away from this look? Just make the cockpit a smidge wider and they'd be perfect.

Another agreement from me.

Although I would add that it'd be nice if the front fender/headlights were less vertical. Everyone is going that way now since the R18s, and it isn't pretty. When they do the overhang it's pretty ugly. Otherwise, I think it's awesome.

They've been edging towards that since the Acura ARX-02 and Audi R15 days. Trying to get air around the fenders rather than primarily over them. That also dates back to the Lister Storm LMP. Not a big fan of the current interpretation, specifically most of the LM variants, but you can't argue with the wind tunnel figures.

That's a product of the rules and limiting other areas where you can make downforce or reduce drag. They should bring back a form of ground effects and you won't need to have weirdly shaped fenders. But I do like the way the current lmp's look. I actually wish they were wider and kept the cockpit size as is. I would like to see the cars as wide as GTE, or 2050-2100mm and big wide 15" tires back again. I'll miss the current cars and hope the new ones look as good as the Aston Martin Valkyrie and the Toyota Gazoo Racing Super Sport.

2050-2100mm i view as way to wide for LMP's.

I would like low, wide cars that actually look like prototypes. Not skinnier GT's. That's why I said they should be as wide as GTE is. Those cars look more like the low-wide gt type prototype than 1900mm wide DP-bubble cockpit cars weve seen renders of.

Everyone needs to understand that they're running against the fastest lmp1 yet in the Toyota. On top of that, the cars are new, running new HD kits, Silverstone had a repave that has caught lmp teams out because it's bumpy and other factors like lack of tire development. Give them some more time and I think by the end of the year they will be a lot closer.

There's an evolution of the AER P60B on the way for 2019, the P60C.

The last question in this thing made me wonder about the future WEC regulations:

Quote:
Is AER interested in the new WEC regulations?

"In any case, AER is looking to the future and we are working on our engine choice for the WEC 2020 regulation. "
Does this mean they might work with a manufacturer to produce a race engine and ERS system? I was under the impression that you had to use an OEM package for the engine but were able to develop your own chassis?

That is a wrong impression. You can use whatever engine you wish, but if it's a production engine at least 25 (cars with that engine) must have been made by the time the car gets on track. Same for the ERS. But you can use a bespoke racing engine. In that case there are no production requirements, but it looks like you also don't get a few goodies you might get by using a production engine. It's somewhat confusingly put in the rules and certain publications in their haste to say something about the regulations got it completely wrong which doesn't help.

I noticed that too. The rush to be 'first!' had a few sites backtracking their initial article. I was surprised that they put that in there because it made no sense to me and sure enough it was false info, fake news if you will

I also don't think manufacturers are forced to use a production engine either. That would make little sense as well. I kinda like the fact that you can use a production engine but must produce a few examples of said engine in a car. I can see someone like Toyota and Aston Martin using upcoming road hypercars for the select few.

Those Russians sure do great PR videos, another one to sign off their first season in LMP1.
Podium at LeMans 24hr!!! fair to say they have developed well. I think this was an amazing result for them considering how many drivers have said the car is difficult to drive.
Also, for AER, well what can we say, they did it, well done to them. Fair to say, they appear to be improving considerably under their new director and group of engineers. They now need to keep doing it.

The considerable improvements of AER on the LMP1 program do make the "Mazdas" look even worse on the P2-DPi chassis side

Well given its only a 2litre engine in an I4 configuration, up against many different much larger capacity engines, my bets are on a pretty bad chassis.
