As Yimkin has been mentioned I thought I would post a picture of my Austin Seven that was modified by Yimkin in 1961 Polished head and valves Sprite cam and Distributer no damper in SU and lighter carb spring, The firm was called Gordon and Glynn, in Codagan Plce London. There was a Yimkin club car and I think a FJ. I did a few hillclimbs and autocross with my Mini

BTW the name 'Yimkin' is arabic, and roughly translates as maybe. As an aside my uncle had for many years an FJ U2 as shown in your other pic - he was *extremely* successful in that! |

Yep... great isn't it!
Good to share some fantastic memories. Off to Snett now so hope to meet up with some fellow ten-tenthers over the weekend. Will post some more pics next week. |

Yimkin,
Gordon & Glynn had the club car in their showroom in 61 and the workshop was next door in a mews garage, I am trying to find the bill I had from them, I came across it some time ago and now can't find it, but as far as I can rember it came to about £45 for taking the engine out replacing the gearbox internals and the work on the head etc |

Jack still has the Galaxie! He is a very good friend of mine and I have often visited his farm in Norfolk where he keeps the car and many others. In his 60s racing days, Jimmy Clark, Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart often used to stay at his house when racing at Snetterton. He is a good customer of my work which has led to our friendship.
A pity he will not allow the car to be raced though - it has been shown in a few demonstration parades and Lord March tried to persuade him to let it race at the first Goodwood revival St.Mary's Trophy Saloon race, but Jack allowed it to do demo laps only. Lord March wanted a Galaxie so had to have one built and copied the livery of Jack's Willment version shown in this photo. It is still a very quick car and is road registered. |

Fred, great shots again! The Alan Mann Cortina was driven by Frank Gardner in the race shown, the 500kms European Touring Car International, Good Friday 1968 at Snett. The works BMW 2002 you posted was driven by Hubert Hahne in the same event. This race and many other events from the 1968 British Saloon Car Chamopionship can be seen on the video 'Classic Saloon Car Racing '60s Style' - Available from all good stockists of racing tapes or from PP Video Ltd in Hereford.
I love it - some terrific nostalgic action. Here is another great club racer from the 60s, Roger Nathan's Astra GT car. |

Any pics of Robert Grant in the Works TVR Grantura at Le Mans in 63 - apparently it did one lap and retired with a serious water leak!

Racing this stuff
There are a bunch of people interested in racing these 60s sports racing cars next year. G12s, B8s, Milmor Gt, Dulon. Costin Nathan etc. Steve Lydon mm.racing@btopenworld.com seems to be one of the driving forces behind it.

Referring back to Bill Needham and Coldwell engineering, I collected a Coldwell GT from him a few weeks back and that twin cam mini engine is still sitting in a very special mini in a dusty corner of his barn. Naturally I have a few pictures but they are still in the camera.

The gentleman that owns the Costin-Nathan that you show, also owns A Serinissma sports racer from 1965. It looks 1 nice race car. Also how many Coldwell's were made. |
