2012 FIA GT3 European Championship
Does anyone even know if there's any entries for GT3 Europe this year? Seems like everyone's doing either GT1 World or Blancpain. I haven't seen any news myself on any motorsport page. Heck, I don't even know if it's still going to be run this year.

Yeah it would be a shame if it fell apart, victim of the success of the GT3 rulesets. Blancpain and the national series such as ADAC Masters sucking up teams.
FIA GT3 Europe was actually really good last year with some top class teams, but alot of them seem to have moved elsewhere. Prospeed - Blancpain Schubert - GT Masters United Autosports - Blancpain Reiter - GT Masters & Blancpain WRT - GT1 & Blancpain DB Motorsports - Blancpain HEICO - GT Masters AF Corse - just abotu everything: GT1/Blancpain/WEC Not to say that any of theese teams couldnt compete in FIA GT3 if they got the budgets together. |

Since registrations opened, the only news I saw was about a Nigerian team going with United Autosport's R8s.

I'm sorry but there are just too many good GT3 championships and not enough teams/cars to support all of them. Blancpain is for teams who want longer races and the World Championship is for teams with the big bucks.
The fact that national series are thriving is really hurting this championship. |

It appears Luxury Racing are entering 2 458s this year. Anthony Beltoise will drive one of them.

Confused me there for a bit Victor!
There will also be an Audi R8 LMS Ultra in FIA GT3 Europe from Portuguese Team NovaDriver with César Campaniço and Ni Amorim. Ni is a veteran driver famous for his time with an Opel Calibra in the DTM a few years back, as well as his excursions with the Chrysler Viper in FIA GT and ALMS. César has driven mainly in Touring Cars and GTs over the past few years. After a few years abroad in Formulas and Megane Trophy, he returned to Portugal for some touring cars and GTs until he started his own team, NovaDriver. This is his 2nd Audi R8, and this one will be a full brand new LMS Ultra. |

What defines the Ultra? Less weight? Better power, reliability, more downforce? Or all of the above?

Will increased restrictions be applied to the R8 in order to make it less competitive then the R8 Ultra?

around of -50kg as dry weight for sure, it then depends by BOP. For better power let's say that the engine is more optimized but also here a lot will be influenced by BOP. Reliability is a too much vague word, now the engine should be more reliable with around 10000km planned before revision but as 24h of spa race shown reliability doesn't mean only reliable engine (the car suffered of brake problems too). For sure the car has a better and developed aero than the 2011 model.

The new R8 probably is all of those things, but the reason for that name is because Audi does this thing known as 'Audi Ultra Lightweight Technology' which wwas plastered down the side of R18's last seaosn.

YACO did mention from a while back that they'd also be in FIA GT3.
Can't believe I'll be able to see that car on track, and up close. |

The street car weighs similar to the Nissan GT-R and Aston DB9, so I don't see why it couldn't be brought down to acceptable weight if those were. |

The Z06 weighs alot less than the DB9 and GTR! My god people talking out their backsides have been in force lately (and not just on T10ths)....

You sure? I see no mention of the Camaro, only Callaway Corvette in the quoted post.
