Don't want to take the above discussion off line 'cos it's getting interesting, but just spoken with Claire this morning.
All qualifying is Sat + five races (don't know which ones) then rest of the racing on Sunday starting at 12.00. (we get last race of the day, probably don't even need to turn up till 4.00pm !

Well lets get this back to the top !! Tickets have arrived - and probably the earliest start for a CT practice I can remember and our race in the afternoon - so just a one dayer pour moi.
I see the Formula Force 5000 are on the schedule - should be interesting !

mmm Force 5000 should be good, shame it's only the national circuit though. Are they only F5000 cars or is there other stuff in there as well ?

Bumper grids for Post Historic and Group 1, and that's with a fair few regulars missing too. Good news.

The F5000 cars looked very interesting, but I noticed from Brands that the times weren't as quick as I'd expected. Still, I'm sure they sound good.

Don't really know much about it Tony but I think its just F5000, I believe they are eligible for the TGP but not the other way round, perhaps there are some lesser formulae allowed but I don't think you'll get in !!
Yeah the grids are looking good, something like 26 and 28 respectively already declared for the 2 you mentioned Stacy - what does the grid hold at Silverstone ? What do you do if it's oversubscribed for an event - split it into 2 races by classes ?

When it's happened before we either have a couple of reserves, or split the races by class (A + B) (C + D + E).

Silverstone holds a starter grid of 38 or something though so shouldn't be a problem.

I once did an HSCC Derek Bell Trophy race at Silverstone with my old Haggis B Sport (105bhp), the DBell grid included F5000, on the approach to Becketts the marshals had to blue flag an F5000 in front as I came through the kink flat, some of those cars are just driven point and squirt, though I think it was his first time out in the car, of course once we got onto the straight.... EEEEEEEOOOOWWWWWW !!! earthquake time

Silverstone has a grid of 34 for single seaters, FF1600 almost exceed it with 32, don't know where they've all appeared from.

Mr Harman, overtaker of F5000 cars, I humbly doff my hat to you squire.........

36 or 38 oh well that should be ok then , nevertheless very encouraging, lets hope the trend continues although I think with such distant venues from fotress Essex as Pembrey,Cadwell and Oulton left I am not convinced !

Oh yes - should be at Pembrey for both - barring any disasters at Silverstone etc... I'm afraid it will be the regular crew! But that'll be another thread won't it............

Yippee indeed. Wouldn't a wet race be lovely...

Finished putting the engine in the Golf at 03:00 on Monday morning, there are still one or two issues to sort out unfortunately but I will hopefully be qualifying Saturday morning.

When are you going to run it in ? Are you going up on Friday to see what times your doing and to get a setup ?

Has Scholar billed you for the work ?

Havn't got any holiday left to take Friday off unfortunately - I have tested at Silverstone before so I'm familiar with the circuit.

The new shell is still MOT'd and I taxed it a while back, so I'm running it in around the streets of Croydon - I have the Golf in the work car park today. Bit of a nightmare through the Purley traffic but there you go.

Scholar bill was £1372 (gulp).

When we tried to start the engine, it made a terrible racket. Further investigation showed that the plastic timing belt cover had been fitted over the top of one of the bolts that keeps it in place, so it was catching a pulley. We fixed that, still made a horrendous racket.

There's a metal plate behind that (not sure what it does) that hasn't been fitted properly, it was touching the crank pulley and resonating.

We weren't sure if the plate was wrong or if the crank pulley has been fitted without some spacer washers or something, I called Scholar and they said they'd call back the next day after they spoke with the guy who put the engine back together. They didn't.

So at the moment I bodged it - attached another piece of metal to a water pump bolt that holds the metal plate back. It now sounds fine but obviously I'm not happy. Scholar say they always turn a rebuilt engine over twice before giving it back to a customer, in this case they can't have done or they would have seen the problem straight away.

Anyway, the rest of the car seems fine - apart from the rear wheel that almost fell off during the first drive the other night. I ain't touched that since Snetterton so I assume I qualified there with it loose too...

Kept going back. I was led to believe they'd do me a good deal this time because I was a previous customer.

Hopefully I won't need an engine builder for a while. When I do I'll be shopping around again.

7 class D cars out there - is that a record? But I'll be happy just to finish - if I do it'll be my first chequered flag since August 2001.

Don't think so. I remember in 99 the races were split A+B and then C+D+E as there were two grids worth. There were Corolla's, Golfs, Escorts, Fiestas..

Best of luck, sounds to me as though Will will be sleeping soundly in his bed tonight!

He's old and bald though, so don't feel too bad!

As I recall there were 8 class D cars out at Mallory in 1998, so Silverstone needs another couple for the record.

I will do my best to get a good night sleep as part of my preparation for calm weekend??

Less of the insults fatty!!!

See you all at Silverstone
