SamBinfield should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
With many thanks to Mike Bell for his assistance, and IN Racing for the odd tool or two (Ten Tenths to the rescue), the head gasket on the Gilbern has been replaced. Not convinced that it won’t go again, but we will find out tomorrow morning in qualifying - fortunately we have a plan B of all goes wrong.

The Nissan Skyline 'Godzilla' finished 3rd after starting P43.

The 2 Rovers finished P5 and P6. SD1 ahead of Vitesse .

The Nissans fastest lap was 3 seconds quicker than the P1 Sierra Cosworth. Wow. Shows how good it is.

It’s hardly a comparable car, is it?

The B&H Sierra (damaged in Q) apparently carried a bit too much speed down the hill onto the straight, clipped a couple of cars and then performed several barrel rolls. Shell severely damaged but driver OK.

Nicest car in that race- CTC24E....

All the time we’ve been here the ‘Rallye Casinos do Algarve’ has been taking place in the area. Annoyed that didn’t find an excuse to skive off to watch a stage!

https://www.visitportugal.com/en/node/413019

Couldn’t miss the finish, though, as the finish ramp was outside the front of our hotel, and the place is overrun with FIA officials this eve.....

Must have been quite a sight seeing those 2 Lister Costin Jaguars at night. Seemed to be some rain mid way through.

Quite the Pre 63 race. Shame to lose the 250 GTO suddenly after it was leading following the leaders drive through.

Looks competitive for GTSCC race tomorrow.

One of the Team Lotus Mk 2 Lotus Cortinas with a 1600cc FVA if I remember correctly. I seem to recall it was regular white/green flash and was later acquired from Team Lotus by Brian Robinson's Byker Hill Garage team.

It must have been run by Alan Mann at some point as there are period pics of it in red/gold, and that’s the scheme it has now. It’s a gorgeous car and with the different engine sounds unlike any other Cortina! The guys were changing the gearbox yesterday, so hopefully car will be out again.

Just looked at the Mk 2 Cortina thread in the Chasssis Archive section of this esteemed site.
CTC 12E, CTC 13E and CTC 14E were the works cars which Brian Robinson/Tony Dean acquired (two of them). CTC 24E was indeed an Alan Mann car.
As you say, a gorgeous car and sound.

The front 5 of the GTSCC have been together for the past hour in the 2hr race.

Quite incredible seeing fastest laps one after the other from the front 5.

Not bad...

According to Bonham's ( https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24876/lot/351/ ), the CTC 24E was bought by Robinson from Lotus, and then sold on to Alan Mann Racing. It started life as a Ford press vehicle powered by an FVA, before being used by Ford (Lotus) for racing.

According to the blurb, during it's original racing period, the propulsion changed and it was fitted with both a Lotus twinky and a V6 before it ended up with a BDA during it's last restoration before being sold last year. At the time of the sale, a BDA was installed.

Mike, it could be that the sequence went Team Lotus - Robinson - Mann. I wonder if TL also raced CTC 24E as well as the other three. Doesn't mention it in the Chassis Archive thread. I'm fairly certain Robinson and Dean used them with FVA engines. They had also run a couple of the ex-Team Lotus mk 1s for a couple of years. I raced against them (the mk 1s) a few times at Croft and, possibly, Rufforth.
CTC 24E was owned for a few years by an acquaintance from York, Martin Sledmore (who still races a Mustang occasionally), who fitted the 3 litre V6 engine for racing. Sacriledge today but back then ex-works cars had no great value when later models succeded them.

According to the touringcarracing.net website , Alan Mann Racing ran the Lotus Cortina Mk2 for the first three rounds while waiting for homologation of the Escort Twin Cam . AG Dean ( Racing ) Ltd ran three Lotus Cortinas mostly for Brian Robinson , Tony Dean and Barry Pearson although there were one or two changes to drivers through the season . touringcarracing.net doesn't state if they were Mk1 or Mk2 though .
