Panoz @ Daytona

What do you make of this? The man who runs the ALMS takes the car that carries his name to his rival series' crown jewel event. What a challenge. What next - a Bill France entered Winston Cup Chevy for Sebring? (hm, it would have to run in GTP...)

Surely, a TransAm car won't win overall (will it?) but still - an amazing scenario.

its a customer trans am car, right? so what does it mater if its a panoz or not? just another car competing in one of the mobile chicane class. purhapes if it was run by the factory panoz then it might an issue. but, as it stands now, its just another customer car like the 911 is in the gt class.

I'm not sure...
Do Newman/Haas usually run TransAm cars? I don't think so. Besides, the engine is a 6l EPP unit รก la LMP.
...maybe a "semi-works" car?

There is only one restriction for factory efforts in the Grand Am. The rules state that if a factory competes it must make the same equipment availale for a set price. This price is usually too low for a factory effort to sell cars for and essentially give away their development time. Audi could come and dominate the Rolex if they make their R8s available for US$600,000, fat chance of that.

It's a Panoz Esperante, which is not the LMP-01 Roadster S by a long shot. They use these cars in the Trans Am and also in the Panoz Racing School.

Endurance Stock Cars....

Cyber.... There is a precedent.... 2 each at '76 Daytona (David and Larry Pearson, gary and Jim Bowsher, Ford Torino; James Hylton and Richard Childress, Chevrolet Laguna) and LeMans (Herschel and Doug McGriff, Dodge Charger; Dick Brooks, Dick Hutcherson (who was 3rd in a GT40, 1966, by the way...), and Marcel Mignot, Ford Torino) 24 hours. 'Finished 16th and 19th at Daytona, non-classified at LeMans. I was at Daytona and couldn't believe they were still running at the finish..... Actually there were others at Daytona but not full blown Winston Cuppers (Novas and Chevelles).... Prolly was a publicity thing due to it being the USAs bicentennial....

LMP/TransAm hybrid?

I hear that the Panoz is a TransAm chassis but with a "LMP style" 6l EPP engine.
I'm guessing now - could it be that they chose to be in GTS to be able to run a fullblown LMP engine (although from the pictures, it doesn't look like it)?

Is this allowed by the GrandAm rules, or do tubeframe cars HAVE to have carburetor engines?

And if so, how competitive would that car (LMP engine in tubeframe chassis) be???
