And at least you can see just about all the circuit from justabout anywhere at Oran Park. Can you do that at China or Bahrain?

OP also has something foreign to all these fancy facilities maskerading as racetracks these days, elevation change

The thing about the overseas races is that everyone thinks they are a great idea until it is THEIR round that is to be cut to make way for them. Then things will change. Was it Dick Johnson IIRC? who said on V8 Superstars that there should be 16 rounds? Maybe there should be if OS rounds are to be included.

Is he happy to budget for the extra rounds though

The issue goes further than he. I believe that an exit poll be done at a few rounds of the championship over this year and maybe next. An exit pll because not eveyone who comes in the gate on race day has (a) been to a motor race before and/or (b) been to a round of the ATCC (V8 Supercar series) before.

Only then do you get a mix of seasoned fans' and newcomers' viewpoints who have now had their expecations exceeded, met or otherwise.

Questions like O/S rounds? How many, where, how many domestic rounds, distances, formats, CPS, points system, race day warm-up, shootout-one lap quals, other preferences and so on.

I must be the only one that actually enjoyed the racing at Shanghai, cause all that most people are saying about it is whinge whinge whinge...

The only thing i'd as for is to ditch China and the Middle East and go somewhere the category can be instantly appreciated, such as the US or UK. I'd love to see the cars going around Laguna Seca, Infineon Raceway, Silverstone or Knockhill

It would only be appreciated in Europe by the purists only, and the casual fans are all that matter these days we keep getting told, and V8Supercars in America would most likely go the same way as NASCAR in Australia..........

Even King Cochrane has said the Asian/Middle East areas are the series boundaries.

I think there'd be a fairly strong following from the BTCC and WTCC crowd, same in the US from followers of some of the newer production based categories emerging.

He's also only looking for government supported events for the time being, something i dont think the US or UK would provide in the near future unfortunately.

Whispers from the powder room suggest that a previously unloved race circuit in Queensland has been offered a multi year deal from AVESCO/TEGA to hold main series V8Supercar rounds long into the future.

Now if we remember rightly, the circuit in question has only ever been on a year by year race deal with the millionaire factory, primarily driven (we all thought) by the allure of races in other parts of that state, and indeed overseas... and that circuit may have been seen by some as expendable.

But if the whisperers have any idea of what's going on, they seem to have gleaned that the support from Mr Beattie's fellow motorsport maniacs for a FNQ event may be contingent on the regular round, at a regular race circuit in that state being maintained.

Presumably this is a requirement to keep the circuit in question operational, keep people in jobs, and indeed keep the huge motorsport infrastructure in Queensland with a valid place to test as well....

Interesting times... here's hoping the powder room inhabitants have it right...

.. if indeed any of this actually happened...
