so i guess i made this poll "open" for too long, but i am surprised that there wasn't more discussion as this seems to have been a hot button issue that has gotten substantially bigger over the last few years.

so, the Daytona 500 is in 2 month's time....
will we see the same aero/plate package?
can expect similar results?
or will NASCAR be reactive to tragedy and not proactive, per their standards?

granted, it isn't 'dega, but both tracks can have similar incidents/accidents.

Well, the ten-tenths Nascar forum isn't exactly the biggest around. Still apart from the Speedtv forums, it's not a very discussed issue.

it is obvious this isn't the biggest nascar forum in the world, but prior to and during plate races of this year, we've had a couple opinionated discussions here, from what i can recall.

i wonder why it isn't more discussed elsewhere. maybe me and only a handful of other fans as well as every driver don't like it.

i guess i'll just be venting my frustrations to the TV in Feb.

I quite like plate races, but I have to say a lot less now after what happened this season. There were some really nasty accidents and some real stupid driving, not helped by the fact you can't overtake below the line.

Something needs to be done about the safety aspect, but I wouldn't like to see plate races disappear.

"stupid driving" may be a good way to describe plate races. there were some bonehead moves for sure, but you just about can't go 500 miles at 'dega , inches a part from 40 other cars at a constant 190 MPH speed without doing something stupid.

i don't really like the yellow line rule either, but if you didn't have it, there would be plenty more stupidity going on.

i just think there has got to be a way to slow the cars down with changing the tracks entirely or using plates. surely someone here can enlighten the rest of us on the REAL and logical possibilities.

well they are on the path to doing just that by 2011, if not late 2010. Helton and some others have come out and said NASCAR will switch to fuel injection in the immediate future. I can't remember what year they were targeting but I saw it close to mid-season so 2010 wouldn't be out of the question.
